Release Date and Platforms
XDefiant is set to release on May 21, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, launching with a six-week preseason.
Preseason Content
Starting May 21, 2024, the preseason will feature:
Four factions (with DedSec needing to be unlocked)
14 maps
Five game modes
24 weapons with over 44 attachments
After the preseason, new content such as factions, maps, weapons, cosmetics, battle passes, and events will be introduced quarterly.
Prestige System
Mark Rubin conducted a Twitter poll on the prestige system, with 71.5% of players preferring the classic ten-level prestige per season over adding new levels each season.
From Tom Clancy Origins to a Broader Ubisoft Universe
XDefiant initially started under the Tom Clancy brand, featuring factions and elements from various Tom Clancy games like Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and The Division. However, the game has since expanded to include a broader range of Ubisoft characters and factions beyond the Tom Clancy universe. This shift allows for a diverse roster of characters, each with unique abilities, adding more variety to the gameplay.
Development Delays
The game faced multiple delays from its original Summer 2023 release due to failed submissions to Sony and Xbox and feedback from Public Test Sessions. Despite missing several internal targets, the development team announced the official release date following successful server tests.
