G'day from Australia. I am an liveaboard, on an Columbia 27. I recomend you should try using an electric outboard motor. I have on my dinghy. The avanage are that you do not need extra feul, the battery can be recharged. Very quiet running and nill maintance. Some of the motors can remove the battery, making the motor lighter to handle by one person. Gerard on board, SV GEMSTAR.

Ahoy there neighbor! Glad you’re enjoying the electric outboard! The two stroke is serving us well for now, tbh we mostly paddle around. But nice upgrade, one day! Thanks for watching, Cheers mate!

I just found your channel, May 2023. What a great job you guys do on the filming and editing. It looks like a professional cinematographer shot it, and the whales were amazing. I can’t believe you only have 4k subs, it’s like WeSail, they only have 34k and they’ve been putting up absolute gold for the last 5 years.

Hey!👋 Thank you so much for the kind compliments! So stoked you found us! KZbin is definitely a slow grow and an absolute grind. The algorithm for sure favors women in bikinis but there's not a lot of that up here in Northern Canada apart from this tropic like island! haha Agreed they have a great channel! Looks like they are really supported by their followers over on Patreon and are at least able to make enough income from that to keep going. Good for them, it's not sustainable otherwise. Hope to continue sharing the adventures with you, cheers! -A

Nice to watch you on such a smaller very simple sailboat enjoying life so much!!That coastline is just amazingly beautiful,bet your boat is way faster after cleaning all that growth off…hope you cleaned the shaft and propeller too.

Thanks so much Mark! You know what they say, go small go now! Cruising on a small simple boat definitely has it's challenges, but for us there are so many reasons why keeping it small and simple makes it that much more rewarding! This coast is absolutely incredible, so stoked to explore it more! She's flying a few knots faster now! Looking forward to getting some new bottom paint on her soon!

A Very Happy New Year to you two! You can buy pretty much anything on this earth if you have enough money, but one thing you can't buy is the luxury of time. To see you realizing this and chasing your dreams is wonderful! Wish you the very best on this journey and we'll be watching.

My first time in Tribune bay the wind changed around 8.00 at night and by 2.30 was blowing around 30-35 had to fight our way out in the dark and only had a compass and depth sounder. I think it took 2 hours to get to the light house. On my channel I have videos of every where we stayed all the way to Alaska. I don't know how to edit just filmed and put them on but there not that bad!

Geeze mate! That sounds like one hell of a ride out! We've heard all sorts of cautious tales of boats dragging in SE blows, glad you made it out in one piece. We left the beach as soon as the wind blew up but by the time we made it to our boat there was already good swell on. We're keen to follow in your sail-wake north! Cheers!

Happy New Year to both of you. I've taken the Alaska Marine Ferry all the way up the Inside Passage, but never on a sailboat. So, will tag along with you by watching your videos :-) Love the Catalina sailboats. I currently sail a Catalina Capri 26 here on Lake Ontario.

Happy New Year Lucilla! Sounds like an awesome trip! Between our stories and your memories hopefully you will get the full experience! Catalina's are great little boats! How do you find lake sailing?! We're currently working on a boat that sailed out from Lake Superior!
@Lucilla

@@AllisonandJamesSailing Lake Ontario is pretty vast. So when you’re out in the middle of it, it does feel like you’re sailing in the middle of the ocean. Must admit, the scenery isn’t as picturesque as the BC coast. Lake Superior is more picturesque based on the little corner of it that I’m familiar with. It’s also a gateway to the North Channel on Lake Huron. You have the best of both worlds - sailing in the west coast and eventually sailing the best of Ontario’s cruising waters. Cheers :-)

Haha it was pretty satisfying scraping those critters off the underside! Hornby island is pretty hippie dippy, colorful and quirky! Happy New Year, from the UK. Watching this during a typical British winter, (cold, dark and very wet) is such an uplifting experience. I am not sure that you need to go on an editing course. Your eye for the artistic shot is bang on, and the way you edit the content together, keeps us all watching, I particularly enjoyed the beach, run with the camera "baton" pass, what a genius idea! BTW, did the bottom scrape, have any effect on the boats handling? Enjoy living the dream, and we can all dream with you 🙂

John, thank you! This is one of the nicest comments we’ve received to date. It really means a lot. Happy to provide a little winter escapism, those cold dark days can really get ya down sometimes! Wishing you a wonderful 2023, cheers mate! And yes we gained at least two knots after scraping those little hitchhikers off the hull 😂

Hey guys you had recommended a sailing guide for the inside passage but I can't remember the name.
@AllisonandJamesSailing
@AllisonandJamesSailing 5 ай бұрын
We just became aware of an online guide that is pretty good called Salish Sea Pilot - downloadable interactive PDF. But it only goes as far as the Broughtons. North of that we recommend Exploring the North Coast of British Columbia (Douglas Hemingway). We’re thinking of putting together our own guide in the near future since many of the anchorages we visited this past season aren’t detailed in that guide, so stay tuned for that. Hope that helps, cheers!

Did you tell us how the ice box insulation is working out? Curious minds want to know...
@AllisonandJamesSailing
@AllisonandJamesSailing Жыл бұрын
Hey Steve! The ice-box insulation works really well, a block of ice keeps now for about 7 days if you don’t open it up too much and pack it well. We spent a few weeks cruising in the fall and found we didn’t really need ice, bottled sea water works just as well to keep the ambient temp down inside the ice box. A total improvement on the previous insulation-less design!

Vancouver Island is not the Pacific Northwest that's the US!
@AllisonandJamesSailing
@AllisonandJamesSailing Ай бұрын
A quick geographical google search would indeed reveal that Oregon, Washington, British Columbia (including Vancouver island) are all part of the loosely defined geographical region called the pacific north west… also, Vancouver island is grammatically definitely not in the US…
@AnandShivan
@AnandShivan Ай бұрын
@@AllisonandJamesSailing the Pacific Northwest reference came about in the relationship of Washington state Oregon, possibly even Idaho in terms of the continental US… It’s the northwest corner… And for some reason lately, a lot of people call Vancouver Island, Vancouver, the lower mainland, etc., the Pacific Northwest… when in fact, it’s the Pacific Southwest of Canada… not to be taken seriously in fact we have debated this over many beers here in Nanaimo over the years
@AllisonandJamesSailing
@AllisonandJamesSailing Ай бұрын
@AnandShivan I can see your perspective. I would say though that as an Australian we were taught that the Pacific Northwest is region of the continent of North America, encompassing parts of both the USA and Canada. A beer does sound good though 👍🏼🦘🍻
