I can't even begin to say how much i love this song, the feeling of it has changed for me now though. My brother just passed away recently and he loved Shakey Graves, this was one of his favorites and he was forever asking me what the name of it was because he could never remember. Although this remains one of my favorite songs of all time it now carries a profound sadness for me, I love you brother, this one will always be for you, until we meet again...

This song, specifically this version makes me think of the moonlit nights I spent drinking with all of my old classmates as if the future was never going to come. Just so intentionally lost in each other's company because we all knew that those times spent dancing, laughing, and smiling in barnyard parties, field concerts, and old country roads that you could just get lost driving on for miles with zero traffic were the best some of us were ever going to see or know. Regardless of our efforts at our jobs. I just see all of the memories flash along to the song in slow motion and it just reminds me that my only regret about any of it was that we didn't enjoy it twice as much as we already were. This man is my hero for bringing this much soul back to folk/blues/country/rock.

Well he's out of season, out of sync Oh lord, what must his family think? And must be getting his feathers wet Plus she always seems to be the talk Until she drops you like a rock Well you should've been a better friend to him Well I dusted all the bones out in my yard I fixed the screen door, raised the barn But still you call me from the moon Every single afternoon Tell me all about the astronauts you've come to love And how the earth looks from above And how I should've been a better friend to you But I've never seen life as a chore A treasure for a find I've read the news, abused the booze And often wondered why My smile remains Though the thinking pains The average passerby Oh they'll sink like stones into their homes Away from teeth like mine Yes, so I came to hate my skin And all the holes you'd hidden in The way you let my legs walk slow weeks away I wish I - Well, you should've been a better friend of mine Well I saw in you a brand new bird The song of which I'd never heard Oh, a melody so fine That whole world would whine And it's a tune to give the boys the blues And turn the horses into glue You know, I should've been a better friend to you Yeah, I should've been a better friend to you Well, I've never seen life as a chore a treasure for to find I've read the news, abused the booze And often wondered why Oh my smile remains the thinking pains The average passerby They'll sink like stones into their homes Away from teeth like mine Yeah, you should've been a better friend of mine Yeah, you should've been a better friend of mine
