a) Video starts at 01:12 b) I am surprised he uses a small-house lighter-duty alternator. Those are usually rated 'intermittent' for small loads such as re-charging start batteries. On our Cummins 8.3, we mounted a 220-amp big-house alternator... rated 'continuous-duty'. At full load pumping into our start plus house bank simultaneously, it remains cool to the touch.

Pity that sunvisor doesn't stand up too well to bird strikes on the Benz. You would do well to fit some extra marker lights above the cabin so as to offer more visual protection.

The answer is very easy. Best is dual alternator and second battery bank. Two different tasks. One high power short time. One lower power over a long time.

Wouldn't it have been easier to install a DC to DC converter instead? It does exactly the same thing: charges your batteries while driving, and if you run out, and your solar can't charge, you just rub the truck for a little bit. What was the thinking/logi/reason behind 2 alternators? Thank you.

. Best is dual alternator and second battery bank. Two different tasks. One high power in a short time. One lower power over a long time. Also, DC - DC if your alternator fails you lose everything. Plus, dc2dc are very low amps. Simple if you think.

@@jupiteradventure5284 interesting. I would have to look more into it since I plan to have a vehicle much smaller than the one Isabela and Fabian have. I don't see myself navigating in cities with such a large truck. Can you imagine parking that behemoth in Mexico City or São Paulo??? :) I may end up going with a Bengal from Tiger, or even a 4x4 Toyota Sunrader. The latter was made in the 80s and you can find service and parts all over the globe. It remains to be seen if a second alternator can be fitted into smaller engines.
