पानीपत का तीसरा युद्ध जो सन १७६१ में मराठो और अफ़ग़ान शासक अहमद शाह अब्दाली की फौजो के बीच लड़ा गया आज भारत, पाक्सितान और अफ़ग़ानिस्तान मे काफी चर्चा का विषय बन गया है| इसका कारण है इस युद्ध और उसके पात्रो पर बनी एक बॉलीवुड फिल्म और उसमे दिखाए जाने वाले तथ्य। इतिहासकार और लेखक उदय एस कुलकर्णी पानीपत की तीसरी लड़ाई का सच हमे बताते है।

And u should read all these wars.u ll get ur answer.even they defeated rajputs.Mahadji Shinde was strongest ruler in Asia at his time.Even sikhs paid tributes to him.Marathas 1000 km away from there home fought various enemies and were successful.Even though they lost at panipat.But they were hungry for 3 weeks and fought in most adverse conditions with double the army of there size combining of abdali,najeeb ud daula, shuja ud daula(1,30,000). Whereas marathas number varied around 50,000 to 65,000.But still after 10 years in 1771 marathas reinstated there rule.Marathas throughout there 150 years fought so many enemies that no other indian race had fought.Even Abdali praised marathas looking at there valour.His more than half army was killed.He suffered heavy losses.In his letter even he mentioned that 'I won just because of god was kind to me,otherwise the valour of marathas was unmatchable to any other race'. Because in that war Najib used a different strategy he fired smoke arrows and started coming forward while making the smoke , but till he came Shinde camp got divided as Jankoji Shinde and Tukoji Shinde went to help Hujurat which was under bhau and Mahadji Shinde left to command Shinde troops but before Najib came news of Hujurat army being loosing and death of Vishwasrao reached Malhararao Holkar as Damaji Gaekwad,Vitthal Vinchurkar,Nana Purandare etc. Informed him and all of them left the battlefield while Mahadji Shinde got injured fighting Najib his troops escorted him outside the battlefield.

The reason Najeeb ud daula and the Rohilla chiefs invited Abdali was that they were fed up of repeated raids and destruction of their territories by the marhattas who had captured delhi and the so called emperor was their captive. Now Bhau fought to the very end until his ladt breath, so did Ibrahim khan Gardi the commander of the marhatta artillery. He and his 9000 men fought to the very last.

The two main reasons for bhau’s defeat are that scindia and holker deserted, and fled in the heat of the battle, leaving bhau with no support and backup. Another main reason for Bhau’s defeat was his arrogance and contempt towards the old horse, the experienced Jat Raja Suraj Mal. Raja Suraj Mal advised and insisted that, Bhau leave his artillery in his fort under his protection and go rampaging the territories of Najeebuddaulah and the Rohillas for a few months, as was the routine of the marhattas, while the monsoons arrive. Once monsoon arrives, Abdali will have no other way but to retreat. Then go fight najib uddaulah and the Rohillas with the full force of the artillery. But As it happened, he didn’t pay heed to raja Suraj Mal, discarded his advice with contempt, treated him like a petty chieftain. So, raja helped bhau with the supplies until abdali ‘s forces cut off all the supply lines to bhau. This caused famine like situation in the marhatta army, and the soldiers forced bhau to fight a desperate battle and cut a way to delhi. The marhatta were on the verge of victory when holker and scindia deserted and the whole marhatta army started fleeing, and were cut down by the Abdali forces.

Biggest mistake Marathas did was they went without good alliance. Diplomacy failed big time in persuading Nawab of Awadh in joining Maratha camp and betrayal of Sural mal jat and other rajpur kings. However, we can't put blame completely on them, remember the fact that Marathas were very arrogant and treated these small rulers very badly in the years before. Earlier expeditions in the north bankrupted marathas because they couldn't get enough revenue from the conquered territories which were already plundered by the Afghans. This made Maratha put more pressure on these small kingdoms. Internally, even Hindu rulers wanted to teach Marathas a lesson for their arrogance. There was no concept of a Indian nation which we have now (neither it was during British conquest), every ruler was thinking about his own. Marathas should have sensed this and avoided direct confrontation with Abdali in the hostile territory.

Mughals were protectors of Rajputs till Shah Jahan times after which things escalated due to Aurangzebs involvement in their personal affairs. Rajputs were more welcome to Mughals than Marathas.

सदाशिवराव भाऊने महाराजा सुरजमल जाट से संधी कर चुके थे पर दिल्ली शहर का कब्जा महाराजा सुरजमलने अपने पास मांगा इस बात का निर्णय लेने का अधीकार पुणे के पेशवा नानासाहेब के पेशवा के पास था , पर पटीयाला के अलासिंग जाटने मराठा फौज पूरे 2 महीने को रसद दी , बात वहाँ बिगड़ी जहाँ नानासाहेब पेशवाने सदाशिवभाऊ को खत लिखा की मैं जल्दी ही उत्तर की तरफ निकल रहा हु ,इसलिये अब सदाशिवराव भाऊ को लड़ाई का निर्णय लेने का अधीकार नहीं था नानासाहब पेशवा के आने तक राह देखना जरूरी बन गया , 21 दिसंबर 1760 को कुंजपुरा अब्दाली ने काबिज किया और अलासिंग जाट से आने वाली रसद बंद हो गयी , इसी दौरान बुंदेलखंड के गोविंद पंत बुंदेला को भी अब्दली के फौजने मार दिया और 10 जनवरी को सारी रसद खतम हो गयी 14 जनवरी 1761 तक चार दिन उपवास पड़ने के बाद भी नानासाहेब पेशवा की फौज का पता नही था इसलिए अब भाऊने पानीपत पर युद्ध का फैसला लिया , अगर वादे के मुताबिक पेशवा नानासाहेब दिसंबर तक दिल्ली पहुच जाता तो सारे रोहिला जो पानीपत पर अटके थे उनके खाली पड़े मुल्क में तबाही मचा कर अब्दली की रसद पूरी तरह तोड़ी जा सकती थी और अब्दली को मराठो पर हमला करना पड़ता जो इब्राहीम खान गारदी के तोपो के डर से जो नैचरली जमीनी समतल से कई फीट ऊंचाई पर तैनात थी और कई तोपे लकड़ी के भारी मचान बनाकर उनपर रखी थी जो अब्दली के घुड़सवार और ऊँटो को बिखरने के पर्याप्त थी इसलिए उसने आखिर तक मराठा कॅम्प पर हमला नहीं किया था , 14 जनवरी 1760 तक नानासाहेब 25 हजार फौज लेकर सिर्फ मध्यप्रदेश के भेलसा तक ही था कुछ दिनों बाद पानीपत की खबर मिलते ही वो वही से पुणे वापस चला गया अगर वो मराठा फौज लेकर आगे दिल्ली जाता तो अब्दली चले जाने के बाद खाली पड़ी दिल्ली आसानी से कब्जे में आ जाती पर उस वक्त ना मराठा ना जाट नाही सिखोंने दिल्ली पर अपना परचम लगाया इसलिए नजीबखान जैसा मामूली रोहिला वहा अगले 10 साल महादजी सिंधिया आने तक वजीर बनकर बैठा रहा पानीपत पर अफगन तुर्की ईरान रोहिलाखंड से बंगाल तक के मुसलमान अनेक आपस मे अनेको मतभेदो सहित जिहाद के नाम पर इकट्ठा हुवे मराठो के सामने खड़े फौज में भी मुहर्रम शिया और सुन्नीयो में भीषण दंगा हुवा जिसमे कई लोग मारे गये पर वो पानीपत पर सिर्फ मुसलमान बनकर लड़े और हिंदू हमेशा की तरह एक नहीं हुवे अब भी और आगे भी

I have read real historian who has given evidences, First there was no need of war, Holkar,shindes were beating rohila and abdali, So abdali and rohila were ready for treaty but bhau started to march north so rohila pleaded abdali to stay, Holkar told bhau to not cross narmada but he didn't listen, Bhau didn't accepted surajmal jats demands which were agreeable so he left, Malharrao told bhau to fight war with guerrilla tactics,bhau didn't listen,he joked about him, Marathas had many non combatant with them, When bhau was loosing malharrao sent his some army to aid him under sardar santaji wagh(you mentioned him in bloody battle), Still Marathas could have won but they were empty stomach since days, Holkar and shinde left around 4 pm when war was lost ,if they had stayed it's would have been suicide, There is no single evidence that shinde Holkar left early, I don't want to bad mouth bhau but it was his mistakes leads to loss, But Brahmin and other historians wanted to hide facts that is why told lies, Wikipedia is not reliable source, If you know little marathi watch this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5K6lp54r9aUfdE

Maratha were arrogant. Na woh Rajputs ko kuch samjhte thy na sikho ko. Biggest issue with sikhs was that When sikhs align with Maratha to attack Durani empire till attock, then maratha gave governorship of Punjab to Adina beg so sikhs felt betrayed and killed maratha governor in punjab. When Abdali came for panipat 3 battle, sikhs didn't attack abdali while he crossed 5 rivers in punjab as sikhs knew abdali is going to kill marathas who betrayed them. After panipat Abdali took heavy loss, marathas were decimated. Only winning party was Sikhs who won without a fight. Later when one tenth of original abdali afghan army was going back to Afghanistan with few cr indian ruppes, sikhs looted them on banks of 5 river crossings. Abdali army was almost finished when he went back to Afghanistan 😅

No their is second battle of Lahore hapoen between jahan khan and Sikh misls in 1759. Where sikhs take positions against afgans and they killed upto 2k afgans. But later they realized that marathas leave punjab and no body came to their support. So they cant gave any resistance to Afgans.
