Watching this on November the 7th, 2022. Yesterday, on Sunday, I just finished my week by having read 13 books! 13 in a week. That's more than I've ever was able to read. I have been dedicating at least 1h of reading a day, plus dictionary reading for about 25mins. On some days of that week, I was able to read up to 6h! Going to start another week of reading and I'm pretty excited.

I have a thousand books. Mine are up in the cloud. I read a kindle. And you know what, they are cheap. Say ten bucks a book verses 30, 40 or so for current pop books. I work nights. Spend a lot of time sitting in the dark in my work. Love the kindle paperwhite

I fell on your video back on juillet 2016, at that time there was no really frequency for my readings, I used to read sometime 3 or 4 books per month or only 1 a month depending on my schedule or mood. After discovering you, I decided to go for one book a week or may be two books per week base on the size of book. As a matter of fact, my goal was to end up with 50 or 52 books between december 2015 to december 2016, and I am glad to tell you that I did it, I read 52 books between December 2015 to 2016. I am from French speaking country, I have reading both French or English books. Through these lines, I just want to thank for inspiring me to go for one book a week, thanks a lot. Last thing I would to share with you, I got my first book published last October by l'Harmattan. The book is French, because my targeted audience was French speak coutries, nevertheless, I am about to translate it in English very soon.

This is an applicable, realistic and enjoyable method of how to do many things compacted in one: reading, time management, setting and achieving a great goal, aquire knowledge, and have a great fun time. When I search for "how to improve reading speed or efficiency", I find: how to read a book in 10 minutes; or how to read a book in a day, etc. and they are - as it is expected- turned out to be a disappointment. because I don't want to read a book in 10 minutes, I want to experience the whole journey that the book offers. I want to enjoy it as well as read it faster and comprehend the most of it better. This, is how to read a book faster and better. And we all know it really, consciously or subconsciously, that the best way is to put more effective time into it. Thank you.

This is one of the best videos I have seen. A lot of good thoughts. I will have to try... do many of them. I need to take your advice. Too much time on Internet stuff eats up reading time. I am now aiming to produce a YT book-at-bedtime reading and in doing that I will force myself to read more (and to think about the content carefully for oral production). I started with a short DH Lawrence piece but I hope to expand to various dead (i.e. out of copyright!) authors. Thanks for encouraging reading!

Another tip is to read the same amount each day, but from many books simultaneously. So it'll take you longer to get through a single book, but you'll be making progress in several books at the same time. This has benefits such as, a)when you get tired of your book, you can pick up another book and feel fresh and able to read for longer each day, b) because you'll be "in" each book over a longer period of time, you have longer to "be" with those characters, that story, and thus, long-term comprehension is greatly increased. Blast through a book in a week, and see how well you remember it in a year. But read that same book slowly, over several months (reading others concurrently), and you'll be amazed how much better you remember that book a year later.

Stephen King is a great proponent of taking advantage of those many, many snippets of "idle time" throughout the day to get in 5 minutes of reading here, 10 minutes of reading there, etc. It adds up! Keep a book with you at all times. Are you waiting in line? Read! Waiting for the bus? Read! A passenger in a car? Read! It adds up quickly and almost imperceptibly.

I find 1 per week unrealisic. Some modern chart paperbacks are so quick I'll get through two. A play may take 2 hours. And then I read many very long (900) page books and classics that may take 2-3 wEeks. So most important for me is to make sure I read for at least 1hr a day (often more) I do get through roughly 50 per year but at a good pace.

Jenny Jenny woww 94 books a year, that's great !! Am just a beginner in reading books ! My goal is 1 book per week now ! What do you suggest me?
@jennyjenny35317 жыл бұрын
I recommend reading from several different books simultaneously, spreading out your time in each book a bit more. Being in a book for only one week, those characters, that plot, those ideas don't have as much time to simmer in your mind. Whereas being in a book for, say, a month, or even longer, you really get a richer experience of that book, and will remember it far better a year or two later. Also, reading several books at the same time, if you get your fill of one book, you have a few others to choose from. I sometimes have 10 books going at once: fiction, non-fiction, detective story, classic, humour, etc. As far as which book, I'd recommend checking out goodreads. You can get ratings, reviews, etc. But because you asked, I will give a personal recommendation, (though I don't know your personal taste). A Tale of Two Cities (classic) by Dickens was eye-opening, enthralling, well-written, and the end was fantastic. Happy reading!
@lebronjames17417 жыл бұрын
Jenny Jenny thank you so much for ur reply !! U mean reading several books simultaneously would be better than just 1 book a week !! Okay !! I like reading self help books , books like emotional intelligence by Daniel goleman , the power of now by eckhart Tolle and Rich dad poor Dad !! That's a great advise from you !! Thank you.

Jenny Jenny btw how much time do u spend in reading per day , and do you set specific target like completion of 4 books within a month or such ?
@jennyjenny35317 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, I do recommend reading from several different books, for the reasons above, and also, each book you're in is adding to the grand feast- ideas from each book bounce off eachother, you can compare similarities and differences, etc, and all of this happens without effort. But for me, the most important reason is that instead of being done with a book in one week ("wham, bam, thankyou mam"), you're really living in that book by stretching it out. A book you spent a week in will be like a fluff of memory compared to a book you simmered in for many weeks or even months.

Cutting down on TV to read more is great advice - but the idea that you should fill every little break or pause in your day with a few pages would absolutely kill the pleasure I take in reading. Too much like a chore that has to get done. I'd much rather set aside a stretch of time at the end of the day that I can really get into reading - but I'm mostly a non-fiction reader. It's probably better advice for fiction readers who are looking for something to take them out of the moment.
