Broken Fence Post Easy Long Term Repair 4 Rotted Fence Posy Replaced With Metal Post W/O Pulling Up

Still holding fine in February 2024. and all the temporary fence posts and temporary plumbing straps were removed once the concrete set after a couple days under the tarp. and I put normal fence post clamps. and put the dirt back. and landscaping fabric and wood chips. Neighbor said it looks great.

It's February 2024 and we sold this house last week and this fence is still standing perfectly straight up, no issues.

This is THE BEST video that i have seen.... a reg guy with the same issues many of us encounter... i liked the temp post and the galvanized pipe that is off center from the exact location from where the two panels meet. Rather than try to remove my leaning post that is in a LARGE filled hole with concrete, I'll just move my post down a little, I also appreciated the DIY method of adding 2x4's as needed. It is not the perfect method, but i am not looking for perfect. I just need to find a method that will work! THANKS!

It's February 2024 and this fence is still standing perfectly straight and the neighbors had no complaints as the repairs were all done on their side of the property. I removed all the extra supports so it looked clean after I was done.

A fix will never be perfect. Just bought my first home and the fence was bad 😢 Dont have money to buy a new fence. But I will fix what I can to save a buck and to prevent anything coming in

Thanks for the video. That looks good. If you don't like the looks of the metal pole next to the wooden fence, you can always paint it to match the fence, or paint if black, or place a fence picket in front of the pole. Fencing contractors tell me that if the posts are rotten, the fence itself is too. Do you have any thoughts about that?

Ours has been up there for a very long time and the fence was somewhat dry but not rotted.. it's above ground so No reason for it to rot. It's treated lumber.. it's still standing straight in 2024.

Thanks, bro! This is a quick and easy way for me to repair the fence between me and my neighbor who had stuff leaning against one post! He's too lazy to do it...and I see no reason to invest digging out the old fence post with CONCRETE. This way, just install to metal fence post on either side of Weak Post, affix them with clamps. Done!

Sounds like a good plan. Yes it's a lot of work removing the concrete. So much easier to work around it. U might have to put boards to keep two sections of the fence connected as I did.

Great video. I’m in The process of fixing my swaying fence. Lowe’s installed it two years ago, and now it’s leaning. My post didn’t rot, but more so the post holes weren’t dug down deep enough. I’ll post my video soon.

even easier if you just break out the concrete and fasten the steel post to the fence post after you pound it in about a foot into the bottom of the hole (Use at least an 8ft post) . only wildcard is setting the post square and flush with the fence post when its level (do this before pounding it in) then you can cut the wooden post base to clear the ground /concrete then set your concrete in the hole around the post. Change the diameter of the hole if necessary to keep the steel post as close to center of the pour as possible. The steel post doesn't need to be as high as the fence. Try and anchor the wood to the steel at three points.

I hate digging post holes. IF the soil isn't rock solid or full of boulders. I just drive a 10' piece of 3/4" rigid galvinized pipe in the ground. 6 ft fence, pipe goes in 4 ft, 2 hole half straps mounted to rails. So far 10 years solid

You can use hot water to help with the concrete chemical reaction in cold weather.

Sorry, KZbin is terrible about notifying me of comments. Not sure which you were asking about but the old wooden post was rotted and broken off. If you're asking about the temporary posts I just pulled them back out. They were fence posts. You just wiggle them back and forth and they lift out of the ground. A steel round posts I put in were left in permanently.

I think this method since you don't have to dig anything out or replace the railers. Gonna try this today. I might dig out the old concrete and reuse the same holes but I haven't decided yet (probably not since this method is so much easier) - also you should put a cap on the post I think so it doesn't fill with water?

@@livenfree Worked out perfect. It's not the prettiest fix but the posts are on my neighbors side =D Not bad at all for $60 bucks. Wlil of course have to do more work later since some of the boards are in rough "rotted" shape but it did the trick and took a couple hours only.

Not sure. Usually pretty reasonable at Lowe's or Menards. I had this hanging in my rafters from the previous homeowner. Can't beat that price 🙂 or I found it somewhere on a property cleanup job.

Should use a self tapping metal screw to attach the strapping to the metal post..

The straps are temporary till the hardware stores open back up after the covid shut down and I could buy a proper clamp

You're seeing the temporary fence posts and clamps to hold it till the concrete sets. I removed those temporary posts and the plumbing strap and put a proper clamp on it and the cap on the post. It's on my neighbor's side and I asked him what he thought and he said it was fine. You're seeing the work in progress. Once it was done I covered up the concrete with dirt, landscape fabric and wood chips.
