That Liverpool team had no right even getting to a quarter final, never mind winning the whole thing. Rafa will always be a legend.

It was a mix of Gerrard's ambitious attitude, the coach's superb substitution decisions and lady luck on our side. Gods, we need such special intervation this season with the English Premier League top four qualification left as our only lifeline.

18 years later, Scott Carson wins the second champions league title as the reserved goalkeeper with Man city just a few hours ago. How time flies.

Surely still Benitez biggest achievement in football by an absolute mile that he won the Champions League with this Liverpool team. Elevated some extraordinarily average footballers to greatness briefly.

Garcia was so amazing back then. Little did i know that he was from Barcelona who played with the golden generation who dominated football.

Garcia's goal was outrageous, the technique, the power, the dip, unbelievable

Rafas tactics are odd i mean playing a young teenage goalkeeper in a big match and not playing Alonso, also La Tallac up front. Just caurious why he did this?
@SiBanstead89 Жыл бұрын
Alonso was only fit enough for the bench after a broken ankle 3 months previously. Cisse yet to come back, Mellor & Pongolle out with season ending Injuries and Morientes cup tied. Carson started the league game v Bolton the previous saturday after Dudek had a slight injury

@@SiBanstead89 Wow you sure know you're stuff. Thank you. Btw i know Alonso was injured for the second leg because Rafa mentioned it in his book he had to play with 3 at the back to help him defensivly, never knew first leg too.

l'm a liverpool fan...and l remember this night well...before the match...the lfc fans put up a mosaic in the kop to the juventus fans at the anfield road end of the pitch...The was was of cource translated in italian of friendship in reference and rememerence of the 39 juventus fans who died at the heysel stadium disaster in the european cup final 20 years previously......Whilst some juve fans applauded at the anfield road end...Most juve fans and understandbly refused to forgive the liverpool fans shameful behaviour that led up to the fatal crush that evening in brussels in may 29th 1985, and stuck out their fingers via turning their backs .....But.... on the pitch it was a fantastic performance from LFC....And considering the team that Juventus had too at that time. For liverpool to remain unfazed and then get a result in turin in the hostile and intimidating surroundings at the stae delle alpe in the second leg.....lt was a fantastic night en route to that magical night in instanbul 2005...rip 39
