Liverpool played a zonal 5-3-2/3-5-2 system to accommodate Thompson, Lawrenson and Hansen in central defense. Well you would if you had three of the most cultured centre-backs in the league in your squad. Bob Paisley was adamant this was not a man-for-man marking/sweeper system. The system was abandoned in autumn after Hansen dropped out due to injury and then Thompson picked up another injury against Graham Taylor's Watford at Anfield. That injury effectively ended Phil's career at Liverpool. It's a pity because the system gave Thompson and Hansen in particular a lot of freedom to step out from the back.

Tottenham’s 7th visit to Wembley, between May 81 - August 82, wow! 2 FA Cup Finals & 2 replays, 1 Milk Cup Final & 2 Charity Shields. 2 v Liverpool, 2 v Manchester City, 2 v QPR & 1 v Aston Villa.
@iainclark5964 Жыл бұрын
Only 2 victories though, even then attractive but no strength.

Both those Cups were gifted, by Hutchinson in 81 and QPR never turned up for the replay.

With great help from this video I’ve identified all the substitutes and added them to the Wikipedia page for this game, previously it only listed those who came on (with the wrong shirts numbers too).

Mate I know you can’t teach stupid but you’re a master. Crooks punched two players a put the head in . But as village idiot you didn’t see it . Congratulations and since that game spurs still haven’t won the league as normal or very little else

Crooks lost control of himself and was the one throwing fairy punches, should've seen Red. So should Souness for the stamp. Different attitudes and different game in those days though.

Obviously Crooks should of been sent off but how the game has changed Souness's stamp was exceptable.
@andrewphippsphillips1455 Жыл бұрын
Crooks wasn't exactly a saint & Graham Roberts was Tottenham's very own animal. Forest had 3 (Burns, Lloyd & McGovern). Some right dirty bastards in the game, with the delightful Vincent Jones still to come in another 5 years. He's still a petulant 5hite on political television shows, as football punditry is beneath him now....
