Also, I remember from earlier lectures that Saeed ibn Zaid (RA) was not only Banu Adi but was also Umar ibn Al Khattab (RA)'s own brother in law..

Wasn't Ali RA also his son in law of Umar RA?

sir a double edged sword means it has blade on one side only, but the blade is sharp from both sides. your house hold knife is suppose to be single edged since u can put your hand on the back of the metal side you cut from, in a double edges sword you can not put your hand on the metal side to add more pressure

Dear Sheikh Yasir, Where do we draw the line, in the ijtihad of Omar ibn-e-Khtab, in the fatawa when they were mentioned?

Blah blah blah! I don't know what Umar bin Khattab (r.a) did during his rule because, unlike "sheikh" Yasir Qadgi, I was not there to see, watch, and report back to the 21st century audience! So excuse me for my ignorance. Now this: It is true that the Midievel Eupropean rulers had very oppressive policies regardingg slaves, foreigners, people of other races and religions, and religious sects that did not conform to creed of the contemporary ruling elite, but today's Europeans have come out of that shameful state and they are not PROUD of their history. YOU, dear sheikh, on the other hand, take pride on similar oppressive policies of your ancestors. You should know that your religion - The Law of Allah that is perfectly preserved in the Qur'an - abhors oppression of any kind. So if Aurangzeb, the Moghal emperor, slapped the infamous Mullah's Law on the non-Muslims, namely, the Shari'ah, then the onus of that oppression is on them. But the fact is that we, the Muslims of the 21st century should feel ashamed, not proud, of the oppressive policies of our ancestors. What deserves our pride, though, is the Meethaq of Madina where every religion could practice their religion the way they liked...without being required to partially shave their heads, wear yellow bands, walk on the side of the road, not preach their religion etc. This becomes even more repressive when we realize that our ancestors, contrary to the Qur'an, invaded other people's territories without provocation to enforce their brand of Shari'ah. If this is not oppression to you, then, maybe you should go back to Princeton and take Islam 101. Sorry, I am not 'white-washing' or 'sugar-coating' what my ancestors did in India in the past, or what they are doing now in Saudi Arabia, Darul Islam, and Ethiopia. I just feel bad about them. I believe the noble Companions must have followed the true Islam, because that's what the Qur'an tells me. I don't get information about my religion from hearsay fairy tales written by the latter day Bukhari & Co, Ibn Ishaq, Ibne Hisham, Ibn Sa'd, Ibn Taymiyyah and what have you.

How do you know how to pray if you dont take hadiths from bukhari & co (may Allah have mercy on him)? How do you even know about the companions without these honorable scholars transmitting their story? Perhaps you should try to have a similar command over the Arabic language and see who is transmitting a bulk if not practically all of what we know about those generations.

Abdul Fauq: You can apologise all you want! We have nothing to be ashamed about! Who are you but some random, no name stranger on the internet thinking he knows better than someone of the ranks of Umar (ra) You want us to be apologetic about the best of all generations based on the fleeting standards of the 21st century?
