Fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudanese People's Liberation Army-North (SPLA-N) is ongoing in Sudan's Blue Nile state, which borders South Sudan. Insecurity along the border has cut off Sudanese pastoralists' access to water and pasture sources in what is now South Sudan. At the same time, cause of the poor 2011 rainy season water and pasture in Blue Nile were scarce, and large herds were to compete for the dwindling natural resources.
The gallery shows activities FAO has carried out in the past to help the most vulnerable in Blue Nile, including vaccination campaigns to protect valuable livelihood assets and trainings of the nomadic pastoralist community to deliver animal health services.
