"Perhaps it's because I'm the one of us to survive." That was where I got so many chills. It's so poignant- cuts right to the core. This song is ahmazing.

When Mark says: "Perhaps its because I'm the one of us to survive." That is a really strong point for me in this scene and for Mark as a character. How he says it, he kind of loses his cool and you get an insight into what Mark is truly thinking and how he thinks of the people he is surrounded by.

Yeah it's like..he thinks everybody else is gonna die and he's gonna be left alone, so if he gets too emotionally attached to everyone it will be even harder to handle it when they're gone. ~:~

The power they put into this song is enough to make me react with tears, anger and just...Rent-ness.

but when you think about it, Mimi was a stripper who did a ton of drugs and such. Doing all that for god knows how long can really ruin how you speak, which was why Daphne was good as Mimi. She had the smokey singing talent to play a young girl living a difficult life in Manhattan

This musical/movie is inspiring and awesome! I wish everyone understood the struggle with addiction, sexuality, and disease. This song shows the love between the characters and the influence one person can make on many people. RIP Angel! RENT is amazing and should be shown in schools instead of those rallies that no body listens to about tolerance this movie inspires all and truly shows everything everybody needs to know to have a compassionate functional society. RENT ROCKS!!!!!

I will be in the minority by saying that I actually prefer this version to the movie version. Probably has something to do with all the good memories I have of playing the 2 cd set on repeat for hours I always thought that Mimi in this one especially in the first 30 seconds sounded much more frail like an addict. This isn't to take anything anyway from Rosario Dawson's performance I thought she did an amazing job. No matter what version you prefer i think we all can agree this is an amazing song

Alot of folks are missing the point. Listen to it. LISTEN. Don't worry about your favorites or who is or isn't singing or whatnot. J. Larson wrote such a powerful and wonderful and joyous and sad score... and if you were listening to the actual words in the part that was "Goodbye Love," and you do that, you'd be crying too much to read my words or any other.

No it cuts out some of it. It leaves out the second part of this song when Mark and Roger fight and when Mimi sings. The film cuts to "What You Own" right after they say "I can't believe this is goodbye." They filmed the second part but left it out due to director Chris Columbus thinking it would be too emotionally hard on the audience.

...I've never heard the full song before... I can't sing the cut version all the way through, because my throat closes up as soon as Collins starts singing. the full song has me crying full out. and yet, I hit replay. Just to add - I had this this version first, and loved it, Lost it after a HDD crash. Got a new version didn't sound right. I'm glad I've got this version back! There's no emotion in the (what I assume it...) the movie version. This is full of raw emotion.
@darealestn0912 жыл бұрын
I said the same thing! The director said his reasoning for it was that in the entire movie Roger and Mark NEVER sang to each other when they interacted, they just talked, and that it came off as awkward for them to start singing to each other over an hour later in the movie. Oh and he didn't want the tension between them to be overdone due to the cinematic story line.

@HysteriaBass Definitely, and the her voice is still amazing in some of the other songs it's just in this song she's crying and dying and dealing with so much emotion that any one in this position would sound like that singing. Amazing actress!!! Amazing music! Amazing Musical/movie!!!

I really like the movie voices better but I never seen the actual musical, just the movie. I think from listening to the soundtrack though, that you get to understand the characters better, like Mark! They didn't really talk about him being alone with his camera, alone.
