I love sailing, being out on the water, but it doesn’t quite love me. Whenever I enter the cabin, on any boat regardless of size, I get sea sick. Docked or underway. Cruise ship or sailboat. My dad had a sailboat when I was in high school, and no matter how much time I spent on the boat, I couldn’t get over it. Outside I’m fine, but inside is 🤢. It starts in my head then to my stomach. I don’t think it’s the motion, it felt more like the atmosphere of the cabin contributed to it, if that makes any sense.
@LyfeUntethered6 ай бұрын
It does indeed. My poor wife has had motion sickness here entire life. After like 3 days of round 1, she was mostly ok. Seasickness is a mother!

Why do you live like this? It just seems like constant work and you are constantly under the stress that any number of things could go wrong and your boat (home) sinks to the bottom. A storm comes and destroys your rigs. You are always hours if not days away from the nearest hospital. I can understand it for a vacation but I honestly can’t wrap my head around wanting to live basically just a few days away from a horrible situation where you very well could lose your life.
@LyfeUntethered6 ай бұрын
Well, you're kinda right. We only lived on it for about 3 weeks, twice. Not our boat. BUT, I'd love to live ona boat. Not this one for SURE, but a newer catamaran. Mmmm. Kinda my fantasy. But ya, all work, all the time, esp. on this POS.

@@Handles_are_good_for_holding While we were snorkling a reef that was way out at sea, Leila, on the boat, tried to signal me - she saw two tiger sharks near us. I couldn't hear her, and kept snorkling. A few minutes later, Michele nearly leaps of the water - there was a tiger shark RIGHT NEAR her. Freaked her out badly. She is not experience out there and BOOKED it to the boat while brad and I covered the rear with hawaiin lances, watching our 6. The worst stuff was when the boat would fail sailing near reefs or into marinas. That's not our boat - we were helping deliver it. So we're on land now, but we really want one!
@Handles_are_good_for_holding6 ай бұрын
@@TrevorJonescreator that sounds like a fun and almost dangerous adventure. You are braver than me. I only go into the water when I can see land from at least one direction. Back in high school I read the book "Dove" by Robin Lee Graham about sailing around the world in his 22ft sailboat Dove. National Geographic paid for his trip in exchange for his story. So I decided I was going to do the same thing. I joined the Coast Guard and got stationed on a buoy tender that was out of Astoria Oregon or specifically the mouth of the Colombia River in an area affectionately known as the 'grave yard of the Pacific'. With our primary mission being search and rescue the was no weather or sea condition that we wouldn't get underway in. We also did Soviet fisheries patrols where we would be out around the 200 mile limit bobbing around for 4+ weeks at a time. Well all this being out to sea caused me to reconsider my dreams of single handedly sailing around the world so I took my copy of the book "Dove" and threw it overboard saying in my head: "Fuck this!" and moved to the desert in Arizona.
