I had Silver City on the top of my list to visit as a possible place to move to from Michigan. Visited the town back in 2007 and spent a week there. The climate is about perfect being high desert. Drove everywhere and did a lot of exploring. Very lovely and quiet. I wanted to move there but the wife said the shopping was deficient. So I went back to the drawing board, and tried to find a high desert area that would work for the both of us. Found Prescott Arizona and loved it. The wife said that the shopping was fine there, so here we are. We visit Silver City most years as we like riding our motorcycle there and attending the Blues Festival. If shopping is not that important to you consider Silver City. Nice!!

Hey, MP. Silver is a very nice town, we loved it for many but the medical center is a constant source of concern to the county commissioners and citizens. Commissioners have been encouraged by citizens to turn it over to a regional hospital system rather than hold ownership of it. GRMCs board is essentially a list of good old boys with political ties and they act it. I'm sure you'll like Silver until you require serious medical help. I've been told by more than a couple of people that when they needed it, the helicopter ride from GRMC to real hospitals in Tucson or Las Cruces was nice (if you're conscious) and until you're billed for it. But it's good to see someone move in after myself and 2 others moved out (Santa Fe and Tucson) due to the poor quality of care at GRMC and sought better care and specialists elsewhere.

@@philm4566 sad to hear about the medical care. The medical care is not very good in Nevada also. Maybe any isolated town is lacking good care. For years I thought any town with a college had good medical, I was wrong. You are also correct about most private hospitals as they seem to be more for profit than to heal people. Thank-you for the heads-up.

Have visited Silver City, NM, enjoyed but only really saw the college. I hope to return.

Lived there for 24 years, and I have to say my childhood was amazing growing up with the mountains, snow, beautiful spring season etc. But so much about the town has changed, the buffalo bar has been closed for years, they tore down the hold hospital and built a massive apartment building that's more ugly than Hillcrest in my opinion. The crime rate is high but it's a small town what do you expect. Theirs nothing to do for most kids except drink and do drugs. The worst part of it is how bad the police are, they have nothing better to do so they write tickets for literally anything, blinker, speeding 6 MPH over, or seat belt. It's considered a retirement community but the health services are terrible, you always have to travel to Las Cruses or Albuquerque for proper care. Still I have many amazing memories and many bad ones but it's an amazing place either way.

Very nice city, beautiful area and climate. Lousy hospital and medical services, so we moved to Tucson. It's hard to get old or have a medical condition there. We loved it, it's too bad.

Phil M probably should have taken better care of yourself while young. Blaming a small town hospital for not being a "big city hospital" is pretty asinine. 💀 Hope you feel better breathing in all that clean Phoenix pollution! Glad you left too!

You don’t know their circumstances! Maybe someone was suddenly diagnosed with cancer. Perhaps a heart condition. You don’t freakin know! Many medical conditions are transmitted genetically. Just when you think you’ve escaped a genetic medical hand-me-down; it slaps you in the face. God forbid that ever happen to you! Be careful, Karma is a real bitch. Way to represent Silver City 🙄

Do you know who all the people are that stood up in Silver City when I sang at that theater. Three people some place didn’t have a whole audience stand up after a song they sang wasn’t that good?

If you like leftist's in charge you'll love Silver. It is no longer a western town, they gave up their rodeo and the folks off the surrounding ranches are seldom seen downtown, too weird, homeless druggies, easteen pilgrims and folks involved in "alternate lifestyles".
