I couldnt believe it when as a child (6 yrs old in 1980) I kept hearing new music come on the radio and would love every one of them. I was amazed by the complexity, character and uniqueness of each style. I would have a visceral emotional response to every track, they became like friends, and they would strum my heart strings and I felt emotionally soothed and understood, like reassuring confirmation that other people out there are also feeling deeply and it is good to be sensitive and emotionally expressive, something that was otherwise missing from my childhood.

This was pretty standard fare back in that decade. You might be interested to know that there are artists today who make music like this, in a genre called Retrowave. The best YT channel for this is "The '80s Guy". I just finished rolling his entire site; it's okay for background music, but I have a feeling that Nudisco and Future Funk are superior genres.

I loved this song growing up. I started singing it recently for no good reason. My son didn’t believe me that it was a real song. Enter KZbin. While I find myself having to do this kind of thing way too often, at least I can find fragments of my past online!

One hit wonder for sure as I can't even remember any of their other songs but this one packs a punch that still resonates. The drum beat still haunts me. What a wonderful pop track! The video is also very well done and entertaining especially for the 80's. The editing is particularly impressive.
