Nothing wrong with being ambiitous. At all. It's not a requirement in Denmark not to be. But you nailed it in that we do see as needing to be for the right reasons. Flashing wealth or status generally isn't that - but achieving to what you believe you're capable of absolutely is. And good to hear about Maya feeling the belonging here. - you're absolutely welcome and a positive addition to Denmark 👍🏻

Hi Youngs, nice to have u back. A couple of comments: Mrs. Young: I think I can see the change u are talking about, I think I can see a glimse of the potential u have, very good. Nice for u to discover, rly nice to see. Growth. I love it. Mr. Young: Plz, please, take care of your health. The water thing is rly good - I had a collegue at work, who stopped with the soda water (and suger in general) every 6 month or so, and within a month lost a huge amount of waight. He did not drink alchohol at all, but just because of the water and no soda water suger, he lost many kg.... he drank lots of cofee too. He newer drank alchohol. He would start again with the soda water after the 6 month, but thats another matter :) plz take care of yourself, the girls/women has to have u for many, many years to come. Concerning money and "hygge": U rly need more money? Rly? Concerning this I sometimes think about Star Trek...Picard has a dialoge at 1 time, ending up in some sort of explanation to "better oneself" in the broader way of speaking. Aristotle "know yourself" inspiration. A nice goal, I think - in the future, we work to better oneself, and ones surroundings - always liked the positive take on the future Star Trek would put accross, when it was at its best. Maja: Nice to have had the oppertunity to have a glimse of your growing up, thx to u and the family. I know that u don't want to hear this, but your parents must be soooo proud of u!

And here from Norway, which is quite similar to Denmark culturally. To be content, to chase the satisfaction of work well done, to seek experience and knowledge, to be with friends and family and to be healthy. At least it used to be like this in Norway. I fear that we are changing, though; that the fasade starts to become more important than the interior. And then of course the value of money becomes more important. I will also add that Danes are good at enjoying life, more than us Norwegians; they are more inventive having been able to create one of the richest and best managed countries in the world with almost no natural resources.

I have 3 professional and academic degrees in leadership/management (one being a master's degree), and that "touchy feely" vibe is very much the missing component of what it means to be in a responsible role. It's not just about relating to the people (and society) that depend on you, it's also very much about how you relate to them without losing touch with our interconnectedness. Looking in on what's happening in the US at the moment, that component seems to have been completely lost as the US is now surrendering to fascism, but for the rest of us, it's a stark reminder that we are all humans trying to work it out. I'm happy to have you here in my country and I wish you a good life and fortune :)

Ambitious is also defined with different values… growing, learning, goals - not necessarily for power, prestige, money but more intrinsic. I am from suburban Chicago in Dk since 1999. So grateful to be part of this society that values humanity. My kids also started University and LOVE it for the same reasons. As my daughter noted, the other students are there because they chose to be there, and were chosen from many applicants. That is a wonderful energy, where all are in it together. LOVE your beautiful red hair, by the way!

5:47 You've gone bush, Josh! There's NO way back, when you start thinking in weeks 🥰 There don't have to be a conflict between being ambitious and being content. Wanting to DO better is not the same as wanting MORE. You've taken the water wagoon, an ambition that's given you a victory: YOU feel better. Who knows, maybe you'll start exercising😉 If you had bought you house with the ambition of earning money, so you could by a bigger one, you'll never be content in that house. If your can fall down on the couch after a hard day and say: I am going to die here 😐... Fåk! I better paint fix that door, and weed that garden - then you'll be content when you are done 🤗 Peace and love

I do have a question and it's really just out of pure, personal curiosity :) A bit of background for the question first: you've been here for seven years, obviously, and obviously, you've found the "Young-family shaped hole in the universe" to paraphrase someone I know. You fit in soooo very, very well and in fact, I think you're the foremost example I can think of of genuine "integration". A lot of Danes (more than I like to admit) do not know the difference between integration and assimilation. The former is, of course, fitting in, getting along with people, enjoying local customs and being a part of life in general, respecting the culture where you are and so on and so forth. All things you very, VERY clearly do exceptionally well. Assimilation would be "becoming Danish. Completely and totally and preferably in half an hour or so, without retaining aaaany links to or customs from your former home" ... which in my opinion is a pretty nasty thing to demand of anyone, and thankfully this is NOT what you've done. Thank goodness. HOWEVER ... your videos are still in English after seven years. Now, don't get me wrong at all. Danish is a horrendously awfully grotesquely and nastily difficult language to learn how to speak, I absolutely get that and acknowledge that. By some metrics, it's one of the hardest languages to learn how to speak fluently in the world, because of how different it is from its written form to its pronounced form, not to mention our linguistic tendency to snippet off all the endings of the words and therefore making any spoken sentence one long blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahpunctuationblahblahblahcommablahblahBLAH! Y'know ... basically using punctuation and commas as an excuse to breathe in, and otherwise having NO BREAKS in the stream of sound. So yes, I get how difficult it is, and I've known native English-speakers, myself, who lived in Denmark for twenty years or more and while they did speak Danish, their accents remained as thick as a Canadian redwood (not that this was a problem, mind you). But here's the question at long last then: do you still speak English in the videos because of viewers from "across the pond" in the US, or IS it because it's hard to learn how to pronounce our peculiar language? There's no blame in this, at all ... as mentioned, I fully understand that Danish is a nightmare to learn. I'm simply curious about it, since I know you did have a few videos in the past where you tried in Danish and I mean ... Maya is attending Uni and becoming a teacher, if I remember correctly? Her Danish is spotless! If it's due to the language being a rotten challenge to learn how to speak, would you then say it's at least understandable to you, even if it's hard to pronounce?
@TravelinYoung
@TravelinYoung 5 күн бұрын
So it's a bit of both but the decision to continue creating content in English is, indeed, mostly because of reach. Even though our viewers are largely within Denmark, we can't guarantee that those viewers are Danish speaking. Speaking in English allows us to have a broader audience both here and abroad. The other reason is that we are all in different places with our Danish. Maya is fully fluent, I am conversational, and Josh is still learning. So, even amongst ourselves, it would be challenging to have a conversation fully in Danish. Maya and I do speak Danish with each other sometimes for practice. I can speak quite well, actually, but I often struggle with listening so that's something I'm working on this year. I can have conversations about daily life but Im still learning vocabulary for other parts of life so that's why listening is hard. I also still tend to speak English at work because of time constraints. None of us has time to listen to me struggle in Danish except maybe at lunch. I'm often in back to back meetings with global teams so English is just the best to work in. We'll get there eventually! Miranda

I feel like not talking about politics is also a very Danish thing :P I didn't know what my parents voted until after I had voted myself - and to a degree I still don't. I get the feeling, mostly from the internet, that Americans are more open and vocal about their party affiliation, and thus maybe stick to it more vehemently than Danes. I'm certainly biased, but I think I like the Danish approach better, since I had to learn about the policies and align my values/self-interests with a party/politician, whereas it seems like a good deal of Americans are inadvertently voting against their own interests, because they were raised in a Whatevercratian household. I'm sorry it turned out to get a little political, despite Josh explicitly saying they weren't going to speak about politics. Just disregard this if you're reading and that's the case - I just felt compelled to write down some thoughts...

That thought is diabolical. How dare you suggest a year without stegt flæsk. Now I need some just to cleanse my brain of the idea. 🥓

I think it was funny and good that you mentioned poilitics. You acknowledge that things are happening in the world, but no comments. 🙂

THANK YOU... for not talking politics. We are being SPOONFED with the current situation atm, and I am FED up with it. As for your video, I can only sympathise with your aging symptoms - been there for quite a while myself. "Time is the fire by which we burn", so the trick is to enjoy every moment your body doesn't hurt. ;-)

I don't know if you're speaking English at your work/school . But if you're speaking English it would go a long way to cut down on the "like" as a filler word :).

As a fellow 40-something I’ve been using Google for ages, but if you DO want a book when you can’t remember “that word” I suggest Oxford Thesaurus of English 😆

You can also level up and get the Oxford Dictionary of English Etymology which not only give you the definition and synonyms but also the origin of the word. It's fabulous!

I wonder why the dont mention our Danish healthy system. Cause in Denmark were used to get free consultation from docters, hospital and the hole pack. In US you dont get a damn thing unless you pay for it. In Denmark thats free no matter who youre, pour or rich. No Homeless people who get a kick. No youre welcome anywhere.
