I wouldn't say that's necessarily true. As I am an Aboriginal helicopter pilot in Canada and make very very good money and life is not complicated at all in that aspect. Life is absolutely great. I think life in Canada is more difficult for middle Eastern people in general.

This is a VERY interesting analogy - and it reflects how I feel in Dubai. You are the client. You are expected to pay (obviously), but you are the centre of what is going on, not always as individual, but as a group. One other thing in here is that one can argue all about "absolute monarchy" vs. "democracy", except I am not really seeing the democratic part these days in large parts of Europe. A group of insane people have run over politics, put demands on the general population and some of the rulers seem to take a page or a whole chapter out of the playbook of the worst dictator you can get. Do a degree that even the EU was quite brutal in criticism of Trudeau. A serious degree I have never seen before. On the other hand, Dubai is really a place where culture (with rules) are still a thing. Now, obviously - as you say - my point of view is a little filtered by being quite on top of the food chain, but I had a lot of talks with people here working (like hotel staff) about working and living conditions and I generally always got the same back: "oh, you are german, amazing, you have such a nice unemployment system". THAT changed, though, the moment I told them about the amount of taxes and social security to pay - generally a "no way, this is ridiculous" was the result. I grew up as a very strong proponent of democracies. Free speech. These days - I am done. Free speech turned into the mob of uninformed retards crying down any discussion and a democracy is the rule of the mob for more free stuff. No continuity, no responsibility. No way - thanks. I rather am not involved in the politics and a good client of a country that CARES about it's future (because, let's face it, it is not like the "legacy democracies" are going to have a lot of future the way they are going now).

A very interesting take that resonated with me. Thank you for sharing. I'm from England but have been living overseas (mainly in Saudi Arabia) for over a decade. As an expat working in Saudi, I certainly get fewer working rights than I would in my home nation, but prefer working here. Of course, the tax-free benefits play a large part in this. However, there are other forces at play too. For example, the workplace culture feels different as all expats are on contracts and thus feel less entitled. We simply get on with the tasks/project. Colleagues are a lot less likely to talk politics (whether that be office or governmental) too. In short, having fewer "worker's rights" in exchange for a more dynamic working environment, less politics and more benefits (tax, salary etc) seems like a fair trade-off for me. Race, gender, and money have a much higher impact on your life if you live in Dubai. The other factor is your original citizenship. For someone NOT coming from a "first world" country, Dubai is a very risky option since your plan B would be to go back and live in Basrah-Iraq, not Vancouver-Canada. There are no safety nets and permanent residency options.

Most of the south Asians or people coming from poor countries to dubai or uae, love it here. Its just that they don't want to retire in their own countries even if they arent retiring with a fortune. That only point leads them to move to places like canada, usa, australia, etc. Other than that i am born and raised in this country UAE and living here since 38 years. After travelling reasonably to some countries i find there is no other country atleast I know which provides the quality life that UAE does. Even people moving to canada from uae mostly look forward to returning back after getting a passport. Blunt it may sound but that's my 1 cent.

I'm from Canada myself and after a (recent) devastating job loss that came very suddenly and unexpectedly, I find myself seriously considering other options outside of Canada. Dubai has been on my radar for quite some time and to hear the perspective of a fellow Canadian is definitely reassuring. The way you described being oppressed in Canada is a feeling I've been experiencing lately. I grew up in Canada and generally like it here, but I'm getting to a point where I feel like I'm limiting myself and there may be much more out there for me. I have a fairly diverse professional background and also happen to speak Arabic, so my hope is that someone like me who is fluent in both English and Arabic might have good opportunities to look forward to in a place like Dubai. I do have my reservations and fears of leaving everything behind and moving to a new country to start over, so my plan is to visit Dubai first before considering taking such a big and courageous leap. On that note, are there any specific areas in Dubai that you think are worth visiting as a tourist and settling in when making the move?

You're welcome As for specific areas. Depends a lot on what you're looking for, budget, etc. Marina and business bay are popular if you're going for apartment living but it's a huge city so tons of options most people don't even know exist

I'm a Canadian, I have visited many countries & cities around the world including Dubai in UAE. My suggestion is go as a person seeking and looking for information to settle, not as a tourist. Being a tourist VS. being a local are completely two different things in any city or country. I have been to many cities where I loved it as a tourist, but not as person who has to earn a living there. Dubai is super attractive and beautiful. For professionals it's an ideal city, it would be great, but completely opposite as a labour class. Never make decisions based on tourist attractions. Good luck. I would love to visit Dubai again.

(Eg) if you were born as a Aboriginal Citizen of Qutar, you would be better off than anyone else as an AVARAGE person. This changes if you are in the top 10% in any country. Taxes = some benefits. No Taxes = better earning, but NO benefits. After living in Canada for over 42 yrs I can say that currently Canada is messed up, thanks to our MLA' and M.P.'s. I have visited & have connections in many many countries, there is always some pros, and cons to every country. Comes downs to individuals' personal needs, desire and satisfaction.

This is why the best thing to do is to work in Dubai and use Canada as a safety net when you hit retirement and have no where better to go. If you could send the wife and kids over to Canada for couple of years while you work in Dubai and earn tax free money that might give you an even bigger boost to your savings. You would save on living expenses and education cost, the kids get free education in Canada and the wife would receive a very generous monthly child benefit and in many situations grants to do higher education at the cost of Canadian tax payers. I’ve met immigrants and citizens who were given grants for almost 20k just because the wife is alone in Canada and claimed no income.

There is no such thing as "free" education or healthcare in Canada, you might not have to pay upfront but you will pay for it down the line. Most people have the pay for education at the university level or above unless you earn scholarships(not open to non citizens), there are subsidies for the very poor. The Healthcare is crap, the waiting times in the hospital emergency rooms can be up to 12 hours, if you're not critically ill. Some days ambulances are not even available and this is in most of the major cities in Canada. Some people think Canadians are stupid and we'll simply pay for anyone coming here but social situation is deteriorating and many legal immigrants are also leaving once they get their citizenship.

Yes - right beside the police station east or west on hastings at main its very bad and very sad. PENSION? because I was a contractor/business owner most of my life I have $11,500 / per year to live on. That would be difficult in a tent - never mind paying rent in Vancouver and surrounding boroughs.

I read that a 72 year old woman in BC was forced to live in her truck because things became so expensive she couldn't afford the rent if she wanted to afford food.

Many well made points and I agree with many of your sentiments. Calgarian here: Theoretically Dubai is an absolute monarchy, theoretically Canada is a democracy. During and shortly after the "bug", Canada was more like an absolute monarchy while Dubai seemed to maintain a level of respect for individual rights. For those who didn't live here through that period in Canada they wouldn't understand why the trucker protest started and was ruthlessly crushed by the government. I have friends from the Middle East who studied here and were thoroughly shocked by the authoritarianism of the government in recent years, they were even more shocked at the level of indoctrination and political correctness in society they never knew existed. One Saudi student mentioned that as religiously strict as SA was, it's government would never have locked down the population and imposed the level of restrictions that Canada imposed on it's citizens.Canada had the 10th most restrictive lockdowns in the world at the time. Your feeling about being a resource to be exploited in Canada is correct, look at the government programs being instituted in Canada and people from other countries would be deeply shocked. One such is MAiD(Medical Assistance in Dying) essentially state sponsored euthanasia, which they have loosened the rules for and is now broadly accepting of all "applicants". In 2021, 10000 Canadians used MAiD to commit legal suicide and many(most) were not terminally ill! This is the level Canada has fallen to under the present government and it's worsening. It's ironic that my parents fled Mao's take over of China in the 1950s to Canada believing that authoritarianism couldn't possibly take over there, how wrong they were. I wish I could leave now but I'm 60 so there is no chance at real employment in places like Dubai and I don't have much in the way of savings left after taking care of my parents (the "free" socialized health care in Canada is an illusion but the 20-30% tax rate on everyone is real) except for a house. If only I were 30 years younger... Things are deteriorating in Canada, many of the politicians are openly far left, and they've gone crazy, they want to defund the police and in Vancouver and in BC they've decriminalized possession of hard drugs and they actually facilitate it's availability! I'm not kidding about this society being turned completely upside down. I've been hearing that many recent legal immigrants are actually planning to leave once they've obtained citizenship, so they can use it as a "safety net" in case they need to flee their home countries. But they don't want to be here, crime is rapidly increasing while the government is actually letting people go with little to no bail on serious charges, but those who speak out against the government a little too loudly will find themselves in front of a judge(I'm not kidding).

I think that the fact that you as a well off westerner living in Dubai, don't understand the misery and deprivation or abuses that migrant workers from South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Africa who do all of the dirty work in Dubai experience on an ongoing basis speaks volumes about how insular your expat bubble is within the Emirate. There are horrendous situations a lot of people face in a lot of countries. Democracies tend to do a poorer job of hiding them than autocracies. Just because you are blind to the deprivations, doesn't mean they don't exist.

I agree with many of your points, BUT I think if you look at working conditions for the Bangladeshi or Indian construction workers in Dubai you would be hard pressed to find anything comparable in Canada. Also, The people on hastings street are there because of trauma/drug addictions, and there are opportunities for them to get off the streets if they choose to.

You forgot to mention a very important thing about your nationality; because you are Canadian you will be offered a good job and a good salary in Dubai, however, someone with a least weak passport with the same capabilities will be offered a lower salary. No hate just stating facts.

Both places have pros and cons and you are entitled to what you think is the best. I do very very well in Canada as a worker and a Aboriginal helicopter pilot. It is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. And it has beauties and places that are unmatched. That Dubai could never have. But with that comes things like homelessness in SOME areas like big cities. Where smaller populations homelessness almost doesn't exist. Almost every country has this and to say that Dubai does not is absolutely not true. Canada's work rules and labor rules are more stringent and protect the worker more. in Dubai labor rules are almost non-existent and some of the hard laborers live and work in almost deplorable conditions in the heat every day. I think Canada is a hard place to live for a lot of middle Eastern people because I think language is a barrier. I also think religion could also be a barrier. There is also the problem that middle Eastern people may not get the best jobs in Canada because of this. I love Canada. My life here is awesome. I make good money and have nice things, and good friends, and as long as I have that I am happy, if you are saying you live in the top 1% of earners then this video should not have any application to the normal person anyway. Because your opinions are so far out of reach for regular people it wouldn't matter anyway. Your opinion comes from you as somebody who's wealthy, so you already don't see the world as normal people see it. I think a lot of people come to Canada thinking that they are going to make a lot of money, because that's what Canada's portrayed as. But what's not being said is you have to have skills and talent as a worker coming here. And those skills and talent have to be much higher than other countries. So people are coming here with no skills and no talent in the workforce, thinking they're going to make lots of money, and have to start all over again from scratch. And some people just simply give up and leave. But for Canadians born here like myself I guess it's just easier

@@OffshoreCitizen That's the big misconception of people who have never lived in Canada, the streets aren't paved with gold and most people have moderate incomes, many barely make enough to pay the bills and their salaries would be considered in the top 1% of their own countries. Also Canada has a high tax rate which saps the ability for anyone to be able to afford anything. Young people here can't even afford a place of their own unless they're dual income couples both with very well paying jobs, house prices are through the roof in almost every large city and many towns in Canada. Vancouver and Toronto's "middle class" housing is north of $1,000,000! and our social systems don't take care of the elderly who are many times priced out of their own homes!

Every point you wrote is very well. Do you want to settle in Canada? Do you want to be a temporary person in Dubai? Do you want voting rights in the future? Things are very hard in Canada currently, but it can be a permanent settlement. In Dubai/ UAE you can earn tax free money. No permanent settlement. Every person I know who was in Dubai for 20 to 30+ years ended up retirement back in thier own country. You have to decide weather short term or long term goals. I loved Dubai as a tourist, one of my most Favorite places. But home is Canada for me. Both places have pros and cons. If you are a young professional, you will be better off in Dubai on short term 5 to 15 years. In Canada, after struggling for about 5 years, you will be better off in the long run. Everyone has their own desires, needs, satisfaction and goals.

I think Western democracies are starting to embody the old saying that... democracy is like two wolves and a sheep deciding on what to have for dinner. If you have a particular viewpoint around the response to the health crisis of the past 2 years, there is very little respect for that personal choice. You have seen your rights legislated away and nary a peep of objection from the majority. It certainly shows that Canada is far from free in the sense many of us once thought. Living in an authoritarian country might sound concerning, but I think there is much to be said for it. You generally know what you're getting into to. If you don't like it, vote with your feet and your wallet.

Of course not as complex and sophisticated, but was very well treated (even though I was there just as an expatriate airline captain, part of an ACMI wet lease package for Oman Air). Very expensive! You probably need at least 5-10 M at a minimum, and they don't work in very many places, if any! There isn't much to tell; you pay tax on the withdrawals and it is essentially a fund that you control, albeit, vicariously!

I did a video a while back on types of freedom In some Regards it's much more free. In other ways less. A client living in Dubai said "it's ironic we need to move to a dictatorship to find freedom" Another business partner from Netherlands commented "people will complain you don't have the freedom to protest in Dubai. I don't care about that freedom. I care about the freedom not to report my finances" Mostly the day to day experience in Dubai is extremely free and there's massive economic freedom. It's not politically free but most people who come aren't looking for that they are happy with the government.

Doesn't Canada provide wellfare (around 1000 to 1500 a month) to low income people if they apply for it? Does such thing exist in Dubai? The homeless problem in Canada in my opinion is 1. Canada wants to be too liberal about human rights and they make no effort to remove these homeless people from streets. I don't think there is less misery in other countries but the Authoritarian governments manage to hide it better. 2. I really think anyone in a normal mental state should never go homeless in Canada considering the government supports for low income and overall work opportunities in Canada

Dude he lives in Dubai and you haven't even visited, I am Pakistani/Canadian myself who lived in Saudi and UAE for many years, my dad came to the Gulf in 1976 as a poor taxi driver and was paid little, but guess what he did? he studied accounting and got a job in Dubai in a accounting firm, with in just 3 years by 1979 he was working as an accountant earning decent money, he worked for that company for over 30 years and retired in 2011 as a Financial Head of that company, he was making 3 figures without tax for so many years. Today my dad lives a retired life in Toronto Canada in a big house which is paid for, from guess what? the Money he made in Dubai. My point is, its all about perspective and what you do with life, yes Dubai has many jobs which pay really shitty money, but if you study a little and improve yourself and you can make a lot more money, like my dad did. Dubai has options for everybody and let my tell you if you ask 90% of Pakistanis and Indians in Dubai, they will say they love the place. You dont know the horrific conditions they come from in India or Pakistan. What people dont realize is that places like Dubai/Gulf region have actually made so many people in Pakistan and India to live better lives, from all the money that is sent by remittances from the people working in the region
