Yep, my family and friends in USA can't believe my husband and I ride bicycles 200 to 300 hundred miles all around Uckermark. Nature is unreal real.

So funny. I am based in Germany, too. And we also need to walk through a forest (approx. 2 miles) to get to the supermarket or bakery. Unless we take a different route and drive by car. But unless we are going to buy something heavy, we actually do walk or go by bike. And yeah, the Xmas markets are lovely.

Let me tell you a story of my ancestors. 120 years ago my family came literally from the forest. A grand grand father were a forest ranger, and he lived with his family in a small house in the middle of a huge forest. Summer , winter through the whole year. For the children this meant to walk to school even in winter 2-3 one way through the dark cold and frightening forest. The next town was far away and they had to walk that way every day. I think Brothers Grimm tales have a real origin. In winter deep forests are special, maybe not terrifying for us now a days, but can you imaging when kids had to go nearly at nigh t to school that in a country where Krampus kidnapped kids, how frightened they were? But they made it. Thank you for the video brought me back to my ancestors. Btw. It was near Regensburg in direction to Kelheim. Irlbrunn Forsthaus.

What a relaxing walk through the forest. I love that charming little farm hut where you can get eggs and such. They have those in Switzerland too.

I love these posts, it looks very similar to where I live in the UK, not far from a city but easy to avoid just by walking in the opposite direction and through the forest, thank you for taking us through these beautiful places, and no a forest may look similar but they all have their own personalities and little surprises, I loved the rope mattress/bed how simple yet so beautiful :)

You have to make a march or april -version of this. Or you go to a forrest that have mostly deciduous trees in it. In spring the new leaves create an scenery of a very bright green. In the south of germany there are forests with lot of evergreen trees or conifers -thats why they are called black forests.. So if you have time, try out other places -for example the teutoburger Wald 😉

German forests are always mythical and it was the reason for the Brother Grimms fairy tales....

At the risk that you mention this later in the video: It's interesting that German forests were not always seen that way, as calm, tranquil, healthy, a place to get fresh energy. Until I think the 1700s it was a place you wouldn't enter without a good reason. It was the home of thieves, robbers, wild animals. Then came along romantic artists writing and painting about the forest, forever changing public perception. Somebody correct me if I got the year wrong, but that's roughly the story.

Romanticism actually originated at the end of the 18th century and reached its peak in the first half of the 19th century.

Jay, I think after this Christmas time of 2022, the word Glühwein (with the ü-dots or not) will find its way into the American language, considering how many times it has been mentioned here on KZbin. I live in an area of Bavaria that is called the Bavarian Forest. Forest, it's in the name. And I love trees. Did you catch the story about the wolf having killed EU comissioner Ursula von der Leyen's pony? Was in the news on Dec 9th 2022. Hunters are free to kill the wolf with the registration number GW950m until January 31st 2023. Don't know if they found him already. But don't you worry, wolves usually don't attack people.
