When it comes to Asia...I am so jealous of their efficiency in products and creativity/aesthetics in businesses (ect. Restaurants, cafes)...but the social pressure/expectations is just so much stress.

I've seen this in Japan and I lived there. I was so shocked to see the students start school so early and get out so late. We found out that Japan has one of the highest suicide due to pressure. It's like the education is rushed and trying to be better than any country. I loved and enjoyed my experience living in Japan and on my bucket list is to visit Korea one day.

Gosh i really appreciate this video. For my entire life I've compared myself to a flower. I'm from Florida, the sunshine state and tried moving to Illinois where it's often cloudy and I was so depressed because of the lack of sun. I really needed to see this video because I've never heard about the micro dust, not even once! Thank you so much.

Some American schools hold children back. When I was in grade school & we moved, I was told I wasn't allowed to do cursive writing because it wasn't taught there until the next year and other students wouldn't be able to read my name on my paper. (They could have guessed it was me.) Also, I had read all the books previously in the reading group they placed me in, so I sat there bored because they didn't offer me other books.) So basically, that whole first year after we moved from city to suburbs was wasted for me. Then the librarian forbid me to check out & read the rest of the books in a series I was trying to get through because she wanted me to try reading other books. It was a goal of mine to finish the series, so after she pulled that on me, I stopped checking out books. She crushed my spirit. It is so wonderful how all the teachers & parents are concerned for the children there. I hope the kids had time for exercise for their body's health as that is important too.

same!! I got in trouble for reading ahead, I had to keep pace with the other students instead of being supported and I wasn't allowed to work on my homework ahead of time. I felt really held back

Thanks for sharing Angel! Im doing my thesis for my Architecture degree about wellness of the city, and I've noticed the problem with North American cities that they are truly unwalkable. I think hearing the experience for alot of the pros were that there were cafes and accessible transportation to get around is really interesting.

That was one thing I really liked about Europe when I was there. So easy to walk places and get exercise. In US, you could get hit by a car, not very friendly for pedestrians. Not many outdoor cafes to enjoy your meal and the outdoors. Not a lot of flower boxes to pretty up the cement structures in US cities. I also felt safer walking around where I was visiting in Europe. I'm sure not all places are that safe now that so many immigrants have come who are complete strangers to the cultures.

I live in Gangnam Seoul! I only have a few months left in my contract so I want to visit home and do some travelling. After than I absolutely will come back to Korea 😌 Love living here 🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷

When you said the rent is cheap, are you referring to living in Seoul city center or did you live further off? And if so, how far away by car to get to "downtown"?

As an American mortgage underwriter the real estate markets of other countries (especially Korea) is so interesting to me. The concept of key money is so opposite of how leasing/renting works here, and the lack of home ownership in general is wild compared to the US insane housing market 😳

Even within America, there are a lot of differences in what is being taught in schools. When I was in eighth grade I moved from Pennsylvania to North Carolina, only to find that they were TWO whole levels behind in math! Being forced to retake Algebra was so frustrating, it's been more than a decade and I still haven't gotten over it😑

Have you noticed a difference in food quality and cost? Cost of groceries and food in the US have gone up while quality has suffered, and I've noticed that food costs in Korea haven't gone up as much in comparison (aside from beef).

yessss but I did notice that fruits in Korea are soooo expensive compared to here! Honestly we didnt cook much at home in Korea because it was cheaper to just goto like a kimbab store.. and order one roll for like $2 whereas if you buy all the groceries to make the kimbab at home it would come out like over $30 🤣

Well in Korea it hasn’t gonna up much because it’s always been expensive. Because of the land constraints any fruit there will always be super expensive plus any imported food. Eating our in Korea is way cheaper than making home meals

Oh man, that microdust was so bad. I thought I might stay (teaching English) for 2 years, but because of the air pollution, I left at the end of 1 year. I also got allergies! Even a hazy day in Los Angeles is nowhere near as bad as when I lived near Seoul.

Sounds like you have to have a smart phone when living in Korea (text messaging, etc.) for when kids are in school & mothers socialize. Did you need to get a phone after you were there or switch phone plans? When using a US cell phone in Europe, you get charged very high fees if you don't have a special phone plan (I don't know anything about the phone plans for traveling.) But for living there as long as you did... Also, did you have a landline and do most Koreans have cell phones or landlines?

Hi Angel, do you require to tip when you are at restaurants there? Also can you get by with minimal korean?

You don't need to tip. Tipping isn't ingrained in Asian culture. Unless say you go for a nice Thai massage and you slip a small cash tip for the masseuse when the masseuse sends you off after the massage. Some basic Korean would be good to start but it's always appreciated when you learn the native language :)

I think it is the aspect of it being her home. I used to hate Texas growing up and wanting to leave it as soon as possible. However, as I got older no matter where I go Texas will always be my home and I will choose it over anything LOL.

@@yee2minty When I visited Texas (Dallas & Houston), people were so warm and friendly to me. When I was there years later for a business trip, I was attacked by fire ants that literally jumped onto my hand & I hadn't even touched what they were sitting on (yet). I just wouldn't be able to get used to the heat. I remember how my glasses & camera lens fogged up so much when I opened my hotel room door. I did like San Antonio's waterway with all the restaurants. I got to see the Alamo, but upon returning home, the photo shop opened my camera and exposed all my film and destroyed my photos. I was so sad, because I haven't been back & miss not having the photos full of memories of what I saw and did. I always take photos of the hotels I stay in (now I have a digital camera), flowers, meals, sightseeing.
