If 1/2 of the population had your work ethic’s.. there would be no unemployment…. People don’t want to work anymore they just collect a check ….. and call it a day and are so lazy…and that’s what they teach their children …. I personally know people like this they have no ambition to better themselves… it’s a shame … I tried talking to them but, it’s a mute point they don’t want to hear it… their response to me is to turn my preacher’s collar around 😮 so I commend you on your work ethics and admire your choice to live in your van and travel the highways…stay safe..

I think one of the things I love most about your videos is that you do what’s in your heart and not what society tells you should be there. I love that you’re being yourself and embracing life on your terms…this is a beautiful thing, and I so appreciate your taking us along for the ride. My warmest wishes to you on all of your journeys.

You will blow through your propane using it for heat. Use the furnace only at night. Suggest you use a ceramic space heater during the day when you can monitor it. Set your furnace for 70°, and use an electric mattress pad on your bed to keep the cold from creeping up from underneath. We've been winter camping many times. Use the campground electric for as many things as you can, even cooking. An electric skillet will save on using your valuable propane, reserving it for heating at night. Also, invest in a heated water hose. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes.

Little tip from an full time RVer: Just to CYA yourself, get yourself a decent small Digital thermometer with one remote. I got mine on Amazon. Stick the remote in your refrigerator so you know it’s keeping your food at a safe temp. The display should have a reading for the room/van temp. This can fail safe thermostat setting. This way you can be sure things are working right. Get yourself a white fresh water hose for filling water and a basic filter. Camp water isn’t always as it should be, and filtering helps. I’ll toss you a few tips when I see you can use them. Love your channel. You’re doing great.

Thank you for your service.... My son has been in the Army since 2017..... He is currently stationed in Hawaii and he absolutely loves it..... He signed up for Army when they went to his school during his lunch period.... It takes roughly 10 months to complete but for our son it took him a little over 5 months to complete...... He had injured his knee and had surgery when he was in high school which he was very upfront about that and he got to basic training and climbing over the wall for one of his obstacles to pass and he reinjured that knee but also did damage to his PCL and they was going to send him home and when I say that kid was heart broken he really was.... You could hear his voice crack when he got to call me for the first time but I tell you what he fought to stay in the Army no matter how long it took him to graduate from basic training... He was very determined.... He then graduated BT and went on to AIT and developed runners knee and again they wanted to send him home and he again fought to stay in the Army.... He wasn't able to continue being a combat medic due to his knee but as long as he was able to stay in that is all that mattered to him... One proud Army Mom for sure so again thank you for your service!! ❤️🤍💙

Have you ever considered putting some sort of lockable box over your propane switch? I’d be worried some unkind person would mess with that in the middle of the night 🥶 Maybe some sort of alteration to bring the control inside so you don’t have to go outside to turn on/off. 😔
@chrism9294
@chrism9294 Жыл бұрын
I’ve only see a handful of her videos (making my way through the list though) and the first video where she said the switch is outside and showed it, I thought she needs to put a lockable cover on it. I’m sure most people aren’t bothering other people’s property but there’s always a bad apple somewhere and it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Hi I just wanted to tell you that no matter what kind of heat your van has. Still prepare as if you didnt have heat inside start with a zero or lower degrees sleeping bag extra warm blankets dont forget warm things to sleep in a hot water bottle feels so good. Many years ago we were at a camp ground a expected snowfall turned into a blizzard that knocked the power out for 4 days we were fine but others suffered. Dont forget a heated blanket. Its better to be safe than sorry. I was gifted a set of flannel sheets and have been using them every winter since. Be safe and Be Blessed
@beblessed2022

Get you a negative degree sleeping bag. It'll help you on those days in Michigan when we get those blustery snow days. I've slept in my car in really cold November Michigan days during deer hunting and found this to be amazing. Also, I didn't worry about keeping van warm all night while I slept so long as I had my thermals on. I think they're called climate control frigid thermals from Wal-Mart. Girl, you are so amazing. I only slept in my van for about a week, you're living my dream lol...😁💙❤
@marthahackett8967
@marthahackett8967 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Take everything you can to keep warm. I like the rectangle sleeping bags because I open it out and layer my cover inside I put my hot water bottle at the footplace my pillow and put my shoes at the bottom corner.nearby I keep a extra heavy blanket just in case I have to throw it over the sleeping bag. My covers include flannel sheets and assorted blankets. I lay down on one half and flip the other half over me the zipper is on the side so I zip it up and am warm sometimes I dont zip it. If I get hot I peel one layer at a time off while still laying on the other half. Last winter I put a electric blanket inside twice. And if you ever get where you cant get warm check in a hotel its not worth it to take a chance. Be Blessed

As a 30+ year recently retired RN that worked 12hour night shifts and more 16 hour shifts than I care to recall I completely understand the sleep deprivation and the after shift walking zombie feeling. I grew up in MI and have lived decades in the southwest but miss the fall and springtime in my much beloved home state of MI!!!! I've always dreamed of seeing this great country by RV but wonder if I can really handle it on my own. I really need to stop watching these videos on an empty stomach, your meals always look so good!

Hi Courageous One (that's my name for you since I don't know it): I'm 79 in a new 17' Ram Promaster van and totally green on how-to do just about everything so was very grateful to find your channel, watching you figure out the Truma control panel, fill the fresh water tank, etc. Your rig looks sizable with a closet, bathroom, hot water, drawers. I had to add storage containers for clothes, etc. Hot water is absent in this no-frills van and will depend on primitive means for makeshift shower. Also no storage unit so all I own is in the van. Looking forward to EP 29 Q&A. I've prayed for a mentor. God is faithful. Thank you for your tips & shining light on my path. Blessings, Diane🥰🙏

Hey there! Here’s a tip😁 Always have two ways to stay warm ei, electric and propane, to cook electric or propane. If you run out of propane in the middle of the nite and you have no electricity it would be wise to have an emergency power station to plug in electric heater, electric blanket, electric cook top. Watch videos on vanlife you will get good tips to stay safe❤️

I have seen someone wrote on a piece of wood like this: " HOUSELESS BUT NOT HOMELESS ", I really like that ! Well, I am houseless living in my small sedan that I call home, and I have a job, sometimes I don't feel like going to work when I feel lazy. But when I think again, I thanked Heaven above for giving me the strength that I able to still alive to get up every morning. I still can get out of bed to wear my shoes. I have my car and my job, and I should be thankful for that instead. I am still lucky than a lot of people out there that don't even have a car at a shelter and have to sleep under the bridge, on the sidewalk..etc.! So, when I think about them, I feel so much luckier that gives me the motivation to get up each day to live positively instead of feeling down mood.

I was stationed in Michigan in the Air Force and I had a basement apartment. I can imagine it would be similar to you living in your van during the winter. It was horrible. Cold! If your van isn't classified as four seasons your going to freeze, even running your heat. You'll be refilling your oil tank every other day, because you'll be running that heat on high. You might want to look into house sitting for a snow bird couple. And use their heat and shower. Trust it's going to be brutal in Michigan in that van. If your water tank isn't heated, you also will have frozen water. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer but being near that water is brutal during the winter. Wishing you the best.

Hey girl, do not use you propane heating. You can buy a space heater that will run on electric and get a 2 burner electric stove. Or you can buy the kind of stove that does not stay hot when turned off. I can’t remember the name but there is one. That way you can store it right away when finished cooking on it. We had a Hugh Winnebago and I used a electric 2 burner all the time. We loved traveling and doing thing as economically as possible. We would still be traveling but my health got in the way and you cannot let a big Motorhome sit. We decided to sell it before things started to get bad. I love your setup and if we ever decide to travel again we will consider something like you have. I love everything you do and look forward to your next video. Till next time be safe, be careful and be you. Betty 🥰🥰🙏🙏💕❤️♥️💗🌹

I have a class b also. I live in ohio and it can get very cold also. After camping this week I will winterize. Will drain the water tank. Even if the tank was heated any water in any drains will freeze in the lines. Sounds like you may have a water heater that needs drained. You can have a tee added at the water pump. Then you can hook a hose up there and run some camper antifreeze through all the lines. You are doing great. A camper is a learning experience. Undrained water in the gray tank will freeze. I add plenty of antifreeze to my black tank also. I use my camper all winter and sometimes use the toilet. Just add antifreeze. Just make sure to have enough antifreeze in the black tank so it doesn't freeze.

This video really made me smile! I'm so happy you figured out the water and the heat. If I didn't sleep, I would have really dark circles under my eyes. I'm so jealous because you look as if you slept like a baby. I'm thinking of getting a conversion van in two years. I'm taking notes....lol. I have way too much stuff. I have to start decluttering now so I can be ready in two years! Thank you for your service!

As you prepare for winter…think about getting a thermal black out curtain for the area between your cab and the back of your van. You could use a tension shower curtain rod to hang one on. The front windows are going to allow a lot of cold temperatures into your van. Remember…it can can get below 0 in the winter! Really enjoy your channel.

Oh and the secret to “saucier” pasta is saving a cup or so of the pasta water. That stuff is good for thinning, thickening and creating a sauce out of barely anything left in your pan. Old Italian secret!😉

You should have an ECO selection on the hot water. If you flip that on for about 30 seconds, it will circulate the hot water through the lines so that you won't have to waste so much water getting the hot water to the tap. Turn it off after about 30 seconds. The Truma struggles to heat water and run the furnace at the same time. It may be a good idea to heat the van then the water. Your rig doesn’t have an internal LP switch? You should be able to leave the outside switch on all the time and use the inside one to control. If you can use an expanding rod to hang thermal blackout curtains behind the driver’s seat, it will make a huge difference in how warm the van will stay. Is your van a 4 seasons rig? How are you keeping your water and sewer lines from freezing?

80 degrees is way to hot! Suggest you set your thermostat to 68 or 70. Once it warms up, that should be comfortable. At 80 you’re burning a lot of extra propane.

Yes, very proud of you...you've made great strides and taking us with you every step of the way. I'm so glad you took your subs advice to get started on winterizing your van and preparing for the winter months, that's extremely smart to get the things you'll need now. Eliminate that stress and I'm sure you're going to feel so much better. I work full-time and take care of my disabled mother full-time so I can totally empathize with you regarding days off and not having any downtime for yourself. I find I have to kind of force myself to have that me time and maintain my sanity...lol

Love your videos. I’m prob old enough to be your mom. I have three boys. My middle one served in the Army. Nothing made me prouder. Thank you for serving!🇺🇸🇺🇸 Just a reminder since your van is new and still under warranty. Your smart and figured the heat and hot water out on your own which is awesome. But if you have any further questions or mechanical questions your dealer should be willing to show you how to do things. If they didn’t give you a full tutorial, they should have. Safe travels!
