Hi Sarah! Bring a clean pillowcase to a breeder and have them "rub" it on the cats. Let your boyfriend sleep on it and after a couple of days you'll know if he can tolerate them or not :) Best of luck!

My partner is allergic to cats quite badly and we have 2 Siberian cats and she is absolutely fine, no symptoms at all with either of them! They rarely shed as well which is good, but all round good experience!!

I love chili crisp but Fly by Jing is literally $16 for one jar. Budget girlies just try the classic Lao Gan Ma. It’s about half the price. I will try the fbj one day!

I'm allergic to both cats and dogs (more to cats), and I've had both my entire life including currently haha. Allergies effect everyone differently, so Idk what level of severe James is when you say severe haha. For me when I'm around cats I get hives, itchy watery eyes, and can't stop sneezing. As long as I take allergy medicine every day and wash my hands after petting them I don't have those same reactions. I also got rid of all of the rugs in my house (minus small throw rugs) and that helps a lot.

oh that’s pretty bad!! james also gets watery eyes and relentless sneezing but without the hives 😅 he sometimes takes allergy meds but it works 50% of the time for him - maybe because he uses it on an ad hoc basis? regardless we’re gonna stock up on some allergy meds before we get a kitty 😂

Hi Sarah! I’m allergic to cats, but my roommate feeds her cat the Purina LiveClear food (reduces allergen in cat hair/dander). Been living with her and her cat for over a year now and haven’t experienced any issues. Would def suggest looking into these kinds of cat food.

Hey girl , for the cat thing - there’s a shot he can take that will take away his allergy. I know I was surprised too when I learned about it. You can just Google it up or check in with your medical provider

I had two siberian/siamese mix cats growing up and I never really realized I had allergies to cats until I got a chantilly tiffany and a tabby once I moved out. Once I got the two, my allergies ramped up like crazy. I do think there's something to a siberian and potentially siamese breed as well that they don't bother those with allergies too much!

omg love the new orange chair and tv console, they so good in y’alls space!! and i have 5 cats but i’m hella allergic to them 😭 had them for almost 7 yrs and the first 4ish yrs i had such severe allergies and felt sick all the time 🥲 i thought i would eventually become immune bc that happens to a lot of people but it never did for me so i’ve been getting allergy shots and taking allergy medicine daily 😔 i love my cats so much but not sure if i’ll adopt another one in the future :/ will def look into siberian cats whenever i do tho!

I've heard good things about Allerpet! It's kind of like a shampoo you can use on your cat every few weeks to reduce dander. I have it for my cat, because my boyfriend is allergic, and I think it helps. (I'm not allergic so it's hard for me to tell any difference haha)

Ima allergic to my cat, tell ur bf to get allergy shots. I have the worst seasonal allergies and the shot clears that up too. If his allergies are bad there’s a good chance he has seasonal allergies too so try saying that!!

My boyfriend is also allergic to cats and I grew hope with a cat and I love them so much 😭😭 so we are also considering a Siberian! I wish I could adopt one tho, I really don’t agree with buying pets unless it’s for a health matter.

I hope you do your best to try and find an adoptable cat and not a breeder. It really sucks that people keep adding to the problem, including when you're based in nyc where there's SO many cats in need of homes right now

we’re definitely looking at the option!! both of my previous cats were adopted but we are trying to be cautious w my bf because his allergies can get quite bad and we’d hate to have to rehome the cat bc of allergies :( - but we do have an alert for siberians on petfinder in case there’s any adoptables that show up!

I don’t think there’s anything you can do to help a cat allergy, its really just if he wants to deal with or not 😅 for me, it also induced asthma symptoms so I would eventually die after months long exposure to a cat just from my airways getting more and more swollen lol I’ve tried twice, and the only thing I can do now is sleepover for a weekend at friends’ places with cats. other than that, anything long term is pretty miserable.
