There are public daycares and schools, which seems to be the most popular option. However, it can be a very long wait to get a spot in those - so private preschool is also an option. They're fairly affordable, as well. My little sister (4yo) goes to a private preschool and it costs around 400€ a month, I think?

二ーナ別府 😆 This is a part of a series called Review/Preview. This whole year we’ve been doing “Great Expat Cities by the Alphabet”. Our community votes on what city they’d like to see and we source the information and put it into an 8-12 minutes show. We use various resources to put these together. Our company used to be expat business consulting company where we would do this type of thing on a regular basis in a one to one format until about a year ago we pivoted and have gone into media and content creation alone. Does that help clarify things? Josh and Kalie are the two that are moving to Portugal but they’re not the only contributors for ExpatsEverywhere. They’re just the main people on camera. Thanks for the comment 🙏

Thanks for the sub and letting us know that you're new. We found that you can work up to 20 hours along with your studies and 40 hours during vacation periods. Remember that the minimum wage in Latvia is €430 and the average wage in Riga is about double that but remember that's on 40 hours and not 20.

Its approx 350-400 1 bedroom flat in city centre with bills(and yes outside of city centre its not gonna be cheaper) food is prety much the same price like in every EU country.

Hi. Yes we have. But if you are from UK dont forgot we coming to your country for work because of low salary in Riga. You probably get per week what you will gonna get here per month in construction. But you are welcome to try your luck. P.S- dodgy thinks in construction in Latvia is really popular. Never ever accept a job without proper contract. If somethings gonna happen you will stay without your money.Keep that in mind. But we are nice/safe and friendly country.

@@homeoffice3524 thanks for the reply. I can imagine the wages being lower than here. We are spending about €1600 a month in the UK for all our bills and mortgage. To be honest the reason I don't want to be here is the political correctness here. Everyone has gone soft!

@@homeoffice3524 ah thats one of the main reasons I want to leave UK, all this vaccine talk. Something very naughty going on. Especially with all these governments pushing it like this! Hopefully if things have changed after Christmas I'll come over, but I don't think its going to get any better for anyone for a long time. Belarus is the only place left in Europe and I cant see that staying that way for too long either

Is getting better, but it needs to improve. Some manifestations pro, some new initiatives from a party in the government coalition. One case last year of open violence against an LGBTQ lecturer, which found repercussion and disapproval. Open violence is extremely rare, and the young generation is more welcoming than the soviet born; hardly you would find many issues in a modern company or university environment, although depending on where you would live the people, mostly older, would not be that welcoming. The country needs more exposure and right now in the midst of Pandemic people are displaying their worst, but is worthy to say after all of this is passed, the country should get back to a progressive path with the new coalition ruling Riga, which clearly demonstrates support to broader definitions on family.

Hi. I dont know if you was already here. I guess i need to start with i personal dont care who sleeping with who. But Latvia is definitely not LGBTQ friendly from my point of view. Most of citizens are against it. BUT we are not ANIMALS. We have a pride, we have a LGBTQ people here. We have special pubs for that to. Yong generation is fine with that because its "popular" this days. But what i can say. If you not walking around and screaming you are "different" and you need to be treated different.(I hope you are open minded, like i am and now what i mean) You and any other LGBTQ person will be absolutely fine and safe here. And if you decide to come here wish you a good time.
@undineskrastina9787

Hi, I'm LGBTQ myself and have been living in Latvia my whole life. It really depends on the generation and place you're in - if you talk with the older people you'll find many homophobic and transphobic people, but the younger generations (millenials and gen Z) are very accepting. We recently (a month or two ago) made civil unions between two women or two men legal, which seems to be a step forward as well. There has been quite a lot of pushback and some attempts to redefine family in the law, though. So it all just depends on who you meet, though I wouldn't say it's great overall.
