Thank you for sharing your journey. As someone who grew up in a small town in Zimbabwe (Bindura), I found living in Harare as an adult to really show classism. If you don't have a car, sofa, or appliance in your house, people look down on you. Although it shouldn't matter, as people are going through different journeys and have different budgets, I find it difficult that people are not diverse in this way of thinking.

It makes sense for someone who has spent 17 years living abroad, gained Australian citizenship, pursued education, built solid work experience, made real estate investments, and established a nice home in Zimbabwe to make this move Zimbos will always have something to say-if you’re leaving for the first time, they’ll say, “Life in the UK or Australia isn’t great.” And if you decide to come back, they’ll say, “Life in Zim isn’t great either munhu haungamugoni

I lived and worked in Cape Town, London, New York, Toronto, Sydney & now Melbourne (10 years). Relocating to live in a city in Zim would be a huge lifestyle downgrade. It’s taken me living abroad to realise rural life is a pristine way of living. Great choice. I am from South Africa & have a rural property in a wildlife estate. My daughter visits 3-4 times a year & gets to see zebras, giraffes etc walking past our home. It’s also just way cheaper than living in Joburg/Cape Town. And the peace is worth it PS. Racism & classism are still huge problems in SA

This is so lovely, and inspiring as someone living in Diaspora and wanting to come back home. Can you also share how you’ll be sustaining yourself whilst back in Zim, I.e. how to make an income- will it be farming? And also how will the kids be educated in the village… are you thinking homeschooling or boarding? This would be really helpful information… thank you 😊

Thank you😊I will definitely share in the next videos 🙂
@Itsyveetoyou15 күн бұрын
This is getting interesting..you seem very happy and thats what’s important😊 Just very curious about other things though but it might be all personal to you though i cannot keep my mind from thinking of… What about the kids..education etc? Is it really something you believe they will embrace..for the long haul…? I think you mentioned how passionate you were about leaving Zim to get the “best” education for yourself..Will that really be the best for them?? Yes the grandparents will be so close which is great, but..don’t people leave “home” to sort out livelihoods and make the best out of that livelihoods for themselves? I am pretty sure this is why even parents bless their children to “go out there” and live life, make do and possibly even do better than they managed to in their lives. Of course keeping in touch with those roots the best way possible too. Then secondly..you do mention relations mostly from your side..which was your major drive in relocating close to them..what about your partner?? Sorry its too long😅 I am just…honestly wondering..especially where kids are concerned..education-wise and progession etc😊
@kudzienicolle15 күн бұрын
Interesting questions🙂 I plan to address them in future videos. I agree with you that people leave home mostly for better livelihoods and situations arise when people are happy with what they have achieved and move back🙂

I feel like she did a good job. Let us be really honest, people are just going by but not really happy raising kids here. There are more reasons which can affect children here for the worse than in Zimbabwe. Her kids will be mentally more healthy than those growing up here. As for education, Zimbabwean education is still good education that's why we all came here and we are managing Western working environments. It's not a big deal. If we are to be honest, we are more resilient than our children growing up here so her kids will be at an advantage. Again rural life makes children more grounded and creative. For white people real rich people live Kuma outskirts, on small plots or farms far away from noise. Psychologically, she has done well for the kids mentally. And when when the mind is right, the physical gets right. Adding the spiritual nothing will be impossible. It's the same mentality with people who say I won't go and retire back home because of healthy System. Kana wakurwara wakurwara and there are circumstances that make you sick here. Why not go back after creating your healthy environment then you can live with dignity. Everyone knows people grow old more healthier in rural areas than in cities worse in Western Countries where everyone gets confused in old age

As you know, regional areas in Australia don't necessarily equate to rural areas in Zimbabwe. Would you mind sharing which area in Zimbabwe you decide to settle in - not asking for specifics as you are entitled to your privacy, but it will just help Zimbo people in Australia like me understand it better. I am a Zimbabwean living in Belguim, yes racist exist, but I had said to myself, I am not going to spend my life time fighting racism, if you like me, I like you too, if you don't like me, I don't like you to, and I just don't go, where I am not welcome.
@kudzienicolle14 күн бұрын
That's a great approach 👍🏾

You people exaggerate racism so much, complaining about minor issues yet you face a violent form of xenophobia in South Africa. Shame

I don't think I'll be doing that, I never did it for my house in Australia. It's a personal space I share with my family

Aussie Aussie must have been a blessing for you and your family to be now retired in Zim at this young age . My question is , are you going to get your Australian government pensions when you reach your retirement age ,or they have a set of rules concerning non residents ? Hopefully it’s not an invasive question . When it comes to class, I know you mean well, but these days classes are not created with intent .They create themselves and you being humble as you seem to be is a class upon itself , so people will treat you as such .
@kudzienicolle15 күн бұрын
Thank you🙂 To answer your question about pension, you do get it after you reach retirement age but I'm far from that lol.

Kudzi, what you are talking about Classism is everywhere and yes its bad. However, here in Australia its kind of hidden because of their belief in Egitarianism. That we are equal but your bank account will tell you that you are the boss but not to show it in social settings and workplaces. Also Centrelink makes a country look like everyone is managing yet there are not. Some of us in the health department specifically doing community nursing we go to all classes of Australia and yes there are different. The difference in Africa is those who have really want to boast and be seen which can be annoying if you are coming from here because Australia is kind of easy going for everyone. And for sure once you get used to living here in Australia, seeing the major devide in Africa affects us all.

I know someone based in "kumusha" like. Her kids are weekly boarders. Extremely expensive ($4k per child) but when we visited l finally understood why she made the call. And ya they are in the same compound with their inlaws, it looks like a 5 star lodge. Back to you as long as you hv the education aspect of it you are sorted. (A lot of people in Zim are now doing homeschool

True...I have also seen a lot of people are the most out of rural living and yes, education is sorted🙂

There’s classism and colorism. Such a shame that they miss customers in shops because they assume that you haven’t got money if you’re not dangling keys. Cars are now keyless zvino todiiko? 😅

Classism is rampant in Africa. In Zimbabwe I never felt it, maybe Harare is different. In Namibia, classism is so pervasive among black people across all income groups. You find a poor person who lives in a tin shack gossiping about a well off guy who lives in a luxury one-bedroom apartment.🤣 Someone who cant afford taxi money gossiping about a speck of dust on your car. I have never seen such shallow people in a country, and when you are a regular shopper, you will be getting stares all the time.The irony is that I feel more comfortable in white malls because they usually mind their own business and they are friendly.
