I also live in shanghai. I went to high school and college in the US, worked hard on the language, worked hard on academics, worked hard to get a job, and worked hard to stay fit and make myself prettier, yet you just so effortlessly have it all. You’re model pretty, have good taste, seem to be surrounded by amazing friends, and you are worldly and speak good English. I’m struggling because i don’t fit into either beauty standard, i look bad in photos, i don’t have an equally cute entourage of friends, and no matter how often people are amazed at my English, I’m not native. Your perfection makes it hard for me to live with myself. It makes me feel like I’m not living my 20s right, I’m missing out on the happiness in my 20s forever because I’m born not as pretty and not as photogenic.

Don’t be so hard on yourself , I’m sure you’re very pretty! you’re so young don’t worry about it just go n have fun. Seriously though, you only live once so why spend that time in negativity. life is not all about looks, love etc. it’s about experience. go make friends, read books, impress people with your intelligence, learn instruments, do what you love, travel, follow your dreams, go to concerts, enjoy the music. If you're in a shitty situation right now, whether that is family problems, school problems or life problems, power through them. Remember your odds of being here, remember everyone's odds of being here and be kind to them. Every one of us will die in the end and I don't want anyone looking back with regret. I was the same in my 20s and always felt unhappy because of some unrealistic high expectations towards myself. Now I am in my early 30s and feeling much more comfortable with myself and the surroundings. My point is everyone is unique and may grow up at a different pace (mentally) but social media just puts too much pressure on it. I hope you have more faith in yourself. Nobody needs to be perfect to live a life : )
