Sounds like North Austin is for more conservative or people with kids. I’ve been to both and South Austin just seems more diverse and inclusive. I’m also a gay black man, so I prefer moving to an area where I would feel more comfortable. I actually watched your video on Georgetown and has planned a move there, however after talking to more people in Austin, it made more sense to move to SoCo instead. I’ll be moving in 4 weeks now!

I’ve lived in south Austin for 7 years and now have a 5 year old kid. It ain’t bad either way but south of Austin is where the best bbq is in my opinion. North Austin is cool too, I can’t tell you anything about it but I’ve heard it’s cool

What I can tell you is Asians and Asian culture exist only in north Austin… dunno why, dunno how that worked out, but if you want decent Asian food you have to head north

Been living in South Austin for 28 years...A lot has changed in Austin over time, but the rivalry between North and South is great....btw South is better! 😁

How are you defining North Austin and South Austin? I always considered the dividing line to be the Colorado River, but since you included the Domain under North Austin but Downtown Austin under South Austin, it sounds like you're setting the line at US 183. During my Austin years I lived in what was usually considered North Austin (near Burnet north of 183). I initially moved to there because of affordability, but eventually I was glad to live there and didn't want to leave. Yes, there is more to do in South Austin and I usually went to South Austin or Downtown to have fun (thankfully my location was pretty good and it wasn't too far). And I did like the more funky and diverse crowd that came with South Austin. That being said, a lot of the transplants I met were from other parts of Texas so I still got to meet native Texans. But at the end of the day, while I liked to play in South Austin, I still preferred living in North Austin. North Austin felt nicer. The streets were wider, there was more of an open feel, it was less dense and crowded, there was more parking, and the terrain was flatter which I liked. South Austin is hillier and more woodsy, which I'm not a big fan of in terms of where I live.

Fairly comparable! If it’s south, more expensive if you’re in downtown. If you’re north, more expensive if it’s a “luxury” or fancy complex. Otherwise, prices aren’t too different between the two.

I lived in north central Austin just west of Hyde Park. Best neighborhood with young families and near to everything. I am surrounded by Liberals which mystifies me.

Dude don't get it. People/visitors/re-locators. He doesn't know a thing. North Austin guy. Love the non-existent 'south Austin.' Keep moving north people! Us here (south of Slaughter) don't mind ;~) We like our Mexicans and musicians and generally being "off the map." Old Austin didn't die... it just moved South.
