I loved this interveiw! I am planning on doing the same in a year or so. I recently visited Valencia (because I plan to move there) and was able to have a consultation with KemKem. I wanted to know from someone living in Spain in person about all the little things involved in living in another country. It is so great to learn from someone there things like healthcare. I will bringing a beloved pet, so I wanted to know about vet costs and quality, also dental, medication and just all the little day to day life activities. I was happy to pay a very reasonable consultation fee and had a very pleasant afternoon. I know there are others who do this but Kemkem is so down to earth and practical. Also, I work in healthcare and live in the US so she knows what that transition is. So big thumbs up for the interview and all the great info from this channel. Thank you K!

Thanks Colette! It was a pleasure meeting you and being able to answer your questions. I look forward to seeing you in these parts sooner than later :-).

She is an inspiration as I plan my move to Europe. My plan is also to work as a Travel nurse part-time. I'm also taking a mental and physical break post covid. Her children will be safer and well rounded growing up outside US. Thanks Kem for having her🥰.

I've been looking for a house or apartment in Montserrat, Valencia. I'm leaning more towards Portugal, but houses are not as nice and priced accordingly as in Spain.

Thank you for watching it. I will reply soon as l am not home right now. A friend of mine lives in Montserrat and in the city😊. Prices have really changed in Portugal. Too famous for its own good. I keep hearing the same .

@@nextbiteoflife Yes ooo! I think the cities will get overcrowded in the near future, and coupled with escalating prices in cost of living, it may not be cute anymore😏. All hope is not lost as big sister Spain is next door waiting. Hahaha😀.

This was a great interview! I am also a nurse and thought about doing travel nursing here and there. I have a young minority son and would like to move for many reasons Shakira mentioned. How old were her sons when she left?
@nextbiteoflife2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim! She has been here just under five years so her kids would have been about 12, 8 and 3? Will clarify and have her answer questions once l get back to Valencia😊.

Hi, Shakira here! My boys were 1, 8 and 12 when we moved. It was a huge adjustment for the oldest and I wish I'd known about the co-official languages. In communities where there is a second language your child will be expected to learn both. Which is doable, but it makes it harder if you want to move later to another province that has a different co-official language.

Thank you for responding! I have 9 year old son and my husband and I want to move to Spain as well. I’m concerned about how his transition would be. I know the younger they are the better usually when in comes to learning a new language and getting use to a new culture. It’s nice to know your children eventually integrated just fine. Again, great interview!

@@kimm7520 honestly 9 isn't bad. It's about 12/13 when they go to secondary school here that gets tough. That's when they start to develop friendships that matter.

Great interview. Does Shakira work through an agency or does she find her own employment? I was wondering what a typical work year is like for her.
@nextbiteoflife2 жыл бұрын
I will ask her to respond to you soon. I am away and have no wifi but l think she works with an agency.

I have done both agency and direct hire. I typically take one assignment a year. Pre-pandemic it was perfect because we could all go and I could work while they visited grandparents, cousins, etc.

Before I went during the Summer when they are out of school. Next year I'll probably start going back during the Summers again because it is so convenient.
