If you can get out of Taipei, Taiwan is even better. Tainan is a terrific city in the south. I lived in Hsin Chu and found the people were so friendly. We loved going out to the mountains simply to explore.

I think using umbrellas with UV protection on a sunny day is a smart move. The UV is quite intense there, applying sun lotion with that level of humidity is uncomfortable.
@IrisViruss8 жыл бұрын
Haha it is quite uncomfortable! I myself hate sticky sunscreens 😂 but you had to see the frequency my mother takes out her umbrella

Really?! Glad to hear that from a Canadian! Though I would drop everything to move back to Toronto.. once I get through the dreadful application process of permenanet residency. Perhaps we should make a trade haha

I'm French I lived in Central China for a Year and I'm gonna move to live in Taiwan and i'm wondering about the living difference, have you experienced it ? (I speak Chinese : important fact for integration at least in China) :)
@IrisViruss7 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexiane, I think you will experience a profound change moving to Taiwan from China. At least from my one time experience visiting my friends in Beijing... which isn't a lot lol but feel free to check out my other video which talked about what I learned from traveling to Beijing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpaupIpjbZehbdU

I really respect the fact you moving to a country you speak the native language of, native English speakers usually think they just speak their language anywhere and get away with it, sickens me ¬¬

Super informative! Thanks! I am from Toronto but have been living in Thailand for 10 months, thinking about coming to Taiwan for a month in April. Which areas would you say are best?
@IrisViruss7 жыл бұрын
Oh for an entire month! You will have more than enough time to travel the whole island! I suggest you to start from Taipei where English is widely spoken. Just to get you familiarizing with the country and the culture, then advancing to the southern territory. Taipei is incredibly convenient with its public transportation from metro to the bus. As you travel south, you will probably want to rent one of those scooters to get around 🛵

This is very helpful! I do have a few questions. My husband and I would like to move to Taipei for six months for some mandarin schooling. Do you have any advice for finding an apartment? Where to shop, and if Taiwanese language is much different than Mandarin.
@IrisViruss7 жыл бұрын
Taiwanese is a dialect that is essentially like Cantonese which is only spoken. When written, it writes like Mandarin Chinese. You wouldn't necessarily need to know Taiwanese if you plan to move to Taipei though you might pick up a few words along the way. Here's a link to apartment renting for the English speakers: www.rentaltw.com/ but if you can read basic Mandarin here's another one: rent.housefun.com.tw/ Shopping is mostly taken place at Xinyl and Daan districts

Hi! So I am moving to Taipei soon, my first full day will be March 1st. Are you still in Taipei? Was wondering if you would like to meet up and have tea and talk about taiwan a bit 😊. I’ve researched kinda what to expect and I’ll be searching for jobs (teaching) while there but it would be nice to have a friend when I get there as I’m an American woman 美國 女人 (slowly learning mandarin lol) traveling alone.

I might be moving to Taichung and I am a disabled vet worried that I won't get medical care. Is that something I should be worried about? What is your favorite thing to do in Taiwan?
@IrisViruss7 жыл бұрын
Umm I believe the foreigners can receive medical care if they were to pay a monthly fee for public healthcare program. I dare say healthcare in Taiwan is relatively efficient and affordable compared to that of the other countries. Favorite thing to do for me is Taiwan is to explore all the hidden restaurant gems tugged away in quiet streets 😄 the variety of food offered in Taiwan is truly surprising
