I think you would enjoy DC more if you actually lived in DC. You will never be able to say you experienced DC until you move into DC from Virginia.

Tbh being from here I actually agree, but only because the city has changed over the last years. Growing up dc was nothing like it is now. There has been dramatic changes in the city and most of our culture is gone. If I were you I’d look more into the history to get a better understanding of where you live. You will find some MINDBLOWING information about the history DC and the whole dmv area. Mainly African American history btw…

As someone who was born and raised in the area I can agree. I think what makes the DC area so depressing is how clicky people are, it's so hard to find genuine friends in DC. It can be very depressing when you move to an area and it's hard to make friends but you see everyone around you laughing and having fun with their group of friends. I moved out of the DMV area and noticed it was so much easier to find friends and people are more open to introducing you to their group of friends, which allows you to quickly meet more people. However, in the DMV some people will take months or years to let you into their "click" and invite you to their activities. About your comment that people talk about politics and their jobs a lot is what to be expected in a very important major city like DC. But everyone there thinks they are a big shot because they have top security clearance and working in high level government.

The soul of DC has been pushed out. Most people there are non-native and boring. It's a type of person that goes to work for a giant bureaucracy and they aren't the fun open type. I'm blue collar and grew up in PG county and spent a lot of time in DC and it was my favorite city but times have changed. A large percentage the natives are living in PG and Charles County MD now

Yes, the moajority of the population just has that serious mind set. They are clearly focused on their career and it bleeds over to everything. Even going out to a lounge you see people dressed like they're at a business meeting.

What if you are rich in DC? Would you still be depressed or use that wealth to get out of DC?

I'm not sure yet. Me personally I would be gone every weekend.
