Living Off Grid In The Northwoods: Warm Winter Weather, Ice Fishing

We’ve been enjoying the warmer temperatures here on the off grid homestead in northern Minnesota. We spent a few days ice fishing and were able to catch some walleyes one night, but then the fishing slowed down. #diy #outdoors #homestead

I used to go fishing with my brother and his wife. Mostly Bluegill and Crappie me and Sandy always caught more than John . Summer time of course but it was fun we’d spend that weekend. We had two vans. And my 2 nephews. Glad you’re posting regularly. Take your time on the new cabin. No need to hurry. I’ll be watching the whole process.

Love to ice fish, and my dad started us early in life. One thing I would suggest is to carry a channel lock or adjustable wrench for hooking up your propane tank. My brother and his boys had a fish house fire. They made it but we're burnt pretty bad. Be safe . Have fun.

You guys are so lucky to have ice fishing this time of year. Been so warm this winter that I wouldn't trust the ice on our lakes in nova Scotia here. I use my propane torch to light my charcoal. Used the lighting fluid once but found it made everything taste like lighting fluid.

Also is you take a small form like a mini muffin pan and put small paper cups in it, then add dry wood shavings and sawdust with some melted wax over it. They make great firestsrters.

It's been a crazy winter in Minnesota, so warm. Nice to be outside, but the lakes are a little iffy now. Glad you had 14" of ice. Catch a "Walter" for me will you. I can usually get a few on White Bear Lake, but not this season, ice is too thin. Have fun! 😊👍☮️

I watch KZbin videos where they always catch fish, usually in the ocean. One are Australians who camp on uninhabited islands and eat what they can find and fish, mud crabs, or crayfish.
