US is huge. You want the beach? Here's the beach. You want some mountains to ski on? Here are the mountains! You want the desert, or you want to see northern lights? US has all of it. While income - taxation - spendings - remainders is insanely complex matter that further depends on a person/their occupation/canton vs state, etc - one thing that no one would argue about is that quality of life and purchasing power of the US are very close to the Swiss ones. So, idk. I'd be interested to know why your brother chose the US - at least, as a person who lives in the US.

@@kilovolt2494Still the US is not the only place which has "all of that" and in Switzerland you don't need to travel far to - for example - go visit a beach. Just because you might happen to cross a few borders... besides you might suddenly be in a completely different culture and that just makes things more interesting. The thing is... your argument kind of doesn't make sense. Just because you live in a small country doesn't mean you are confined in it, because that is not how Europe works.

Not quite correct. Every municipality in Zürich has its own tax ratio, but for sake of your example, lets assume it is the municipality of Zürich. Church tax is not compulsory - you can declare you have no faith & you will not be charged this tax. These calcs change depending on if you own assets, property, live with codependents, earn income or have assets in other countries, age, sex & nationality. Its nice to think these are 1:1 comparisons, but they arent. My $140K income in Zürich as a single man saw a total of 16% of total deductions. In Fribourg it was 24%. Cost of living in Zürich is WAY higher than in Fribourg. This is not an accurate apples to apples comparison.

You can get removed from the church tax, same in Germany. Just don’t expect to get married in one afterwards though

maybe we should learn from this because to get old here is terrible because like many societies who take care of the elderly we don't

I pay nearly that percentage in the US. I’m actually shocked it’s not more in Switzerland. We basically get jack shit for our taxes. The Swiss have incredible social programs by comparison.

Can you call pension, income insurance and health insurance contributions a tax? You have to pay all of these from your net salary in other countries and Swiss govt gives platinum level service and rewards...

I pay nearly that in Florida and make 2/3 that lol. I also don’t have any of the benefits of being a Swiss citizen. I have to pay $400 in health care premiums lmao

Sounds like they pay for their own future retirement plus Switzerland being a semi socialist state, they ensure all residents are safe and secure. Great country, no wonder Tina Turner became a Swiss citizen. ..

What is the point of this? The tax rate seems just normal - except, maybe, to Americans.

Assuming this is real - which I highly doubt - paying $63,974 tax on $200,000 leaves $136,026 take-home. This is an effective tax rate of 32%. Before Reagan, the maximum federal income tax rate in America was 70% and there was no deficit. Was it worth the trade to give this massive federal debt to our children and grandchildren? We know the Swiss are totally taken care of, cradle to grave. What did WE get for all that debt?

36% tax is nothing! Turkey is the country that has the highest taxes. When you decided to buy a car, you need to buy a car the for the goverment too. standard tax rates almost 50% for almost everything. Healtcare, every kinf of insurance is too expensive.

Does not seem like a lot, also the quality of life there is totally worth it. I hope I could contribute the most I can to the country where I live so that no one is left behind. We need more Switzerlands!

Lots of people pointing out what is wrong in the USA yet millions want to come and live here. For those that live here and complain nothing is stopping you from going elsewhere.
