I lived in Chiang Mai for close to 2.5 years and I personally would not recommend anyone budgeting 600USD per month there...and that was like 5 years ago. 600 USD a month is honestly peanuts. If you get into an accident or some unexpected expense come up (which almost always happens if living semi-long term ~3 months or more)... that 600 USD budget will easily get blown out. I would recommend budgeting minimum 1K USD per month to be comfortable. If you are a digital nomad, you should always be saving some money each month as well.

Yep I would agree with you, this video was a hypothetical kind of a lifestyle you could lead on this amount :)

I did that kind of budget in Chiang mai for 15 months in 2017-2019.Condo rent was B2,200 .No a/c just fan .A main meal locally was B40 .Breaklfast B25 . I had WiFi in the building for B200 a month .A phone package with D-Tak for around B300 .I was still able to have a few take away beers every day .Every 3 months done a visa run to Mae Sai .Once every 15 months had to do a new visa in Savanakhet Lao .The M-O visa cost B5000
@tomdurover Жыл бұрын
Did you had a one year visa?
@anthonydowling3356 Жыл бұрын
@@tomdurover It was a multiple O visa ,acquired by being married to a Thai which lasted 12 plus 3 months ,total 15 months .
@anthonydowling3356 Жыл бұрын
@@tomdurover It was 12 months but by doing another visa run just before the 12 months were up you got another 3 months so 15 months in total .

Nice, yeah I remember the days of the multiple entry non-o from Savanakhet! Not done that for years but it was good fun to spend a bit of time in Laos :)

Glad you included health insurance. So many vlogs seem to forget or just not care about it which is completely mental. If you can't afford health insurance, you can't afford to live there
@jondcanton Жыл бұрын
I think it depends on peoples situation, some people self insure which is just as good.

@@jondcanton true but if the worst happens, it can cost several million baht. Got that in the bank you're fine.

@jondcanton Жыл бұрын
Nice! Was that unlimited at 5G? Usually you can get 'unlimited' internet however only a certain amount of data at high speed. For truly unlimited at full speed it's usually around 1,000 baht give or take :)

not 1000@@jondcantonhow would a local offered this?

@@gingjok yes you can get cheaper but it’s limited in some way, approx 1,190 is the top ais package which gives you unlimited internet at the highest speed

@@jondcanton Im not if sure if it was 5g but I assume it was. You could check the AIS shop near the north gate. I would advise anyone to go there. In my option the best place to go. I didn’t had a yearly subscription as I was in CM for 4 months.

Jon you are doing a great job. Just subbed, keep it up. It doesn't matter whether we are making north of 4 figures or reaching 5+figures, frugality gives us the freedom to build portfolios and have lasting peace of mind rather than peacocking pretentious trinkets. High comfort in Thailand is attainable for less than even the cheapest rooms in London. Modern high end apartments in London are a joke hence why I expat in better parts of Europe regularly. Even Thailand's suburbs, south of £200 per month make living in 7 figure+ apartments in my home city questionable 🤔 And then £500/600 month BKK apartments embarrass Dubai, where Dubai is not my vibe anyway
