For anyone who didn't know, she was the very first black female to win Best Lead Actress in a Comedy for "The Jeffersons." Flip Wilson was a very famous comedian from the 60's and 70's. he was martin before Martin. He had a variety show I think i was in the 70's early80s maybe, but he had a character named Geraldine which was the 70s equivalent of Wanda/Jamie Foxx and She-naa-naa/Martin. You should google his old clips. He was around with Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor. Everyo9ne else has already told you about Weezy. FYI Kim Fields who plays Regine Is Kim Fields. She has been around forever. She started as a child and was a regular on Good Times, the Facts of Life as Tootie , then LIving Single. SHe is one of the few actresses that went from hit show, to hit show, to hit show

looking back, Living Single & Martin had a pretty stacked list of guest appearances their debut season. in that first season of living single, they had Dean Cain, Isabel Sanford, Arsenio Hall, Charnele Brown (from A Different World), Ed MacMahon, Flip Wilson, a pre-fame Terence Howard etc etc etc. That's a big deal for a show on a network just starting out. What a time to watch growing up. So much black excellence. Speaking of......perhaps a reaction to the first season of Girlfriends. that's funny that Max mentioned watching house party 2 in episode 10 because Queen Latifah was in House Party 2. There are subtle nods to other work that the actresses have bee in, like in the Greg dinner episode - there's mention of the school for girls that his fiancee had gone to to which Regine says 'never heard of it.' which is funny because the name of the school was the school her character Tootie from Facts of Life went to. :) Flip Wilson was the first black comedian with his own variety show. huge in the 1970s before and during SNL days. His character Geraldine was such a fan favorite and highlight that she had her own line of vinyl records at the time. I have one around here somewhere.
