The song "Bobby McGee" or is it called "Freedom" by Janis Joplin sprung to mind when you spoke of the freedom you have with not having much. Amen to that! And yes, I'm living the same philosophy now, in regards to being unconventional, perhaps a good word to describe it. Like, I went out dancing tonight, danced to the songs I felt like, sat for others and people (lovely people) were consistently urging me to get up and dance more. I got a bit tired of being kind of told what to do. I do ME. That's it! I just laugh, nod and wave it off, politely. Another recent example. A post was put up in the local community group asking what people did when it was raining here, in Sanur. My comment: "Jump in puddles. That's what I do 😁 " People probably think I'm drunk but I don't care what they think. I don't drink alcohol anymore, by the way. I have no need for it, I'm happy already, without it. And if I so wish to partake, I can if I feel like it. Simples 😅 (ref. Oz advert). And yes, life is full of choices. We can choose anything we want to do, not continually worrying about if that choice is acceptable to others or even need to know exactly how that choice will unfold. That's not our job to worry about stuff like that. If we want it bad enough, it can and it will happen, regardless of the neigh-sayers or the how-tos or the societal norms. Keep living the dream Wayne.

I mostly cycle in good weather, but have been caught out a few times. In Mandalay Burma it bucketed down for a few days so I bought a heavy duty poncho with thick material and I've still got it. It's mostly what the scooter riders wore. In Bali I was cycling up to the Bunut bolong and it bucketed down with a river flowing down the road so I was drenched, but down near the sea it was good weather.

Selemat Malam, Wayne! Bagus sekali jalanmu ke Moluccas. Once traveled 2 Ambon, took a boat with an another American(man) from Ambon to Banda island. When we docked, he ran away(run amok) & I spent hours looking for him. Finally, the kepala desa located him under a coconut tree. He was suffering from "culture shock." I immediately told him we will fly to Ujung Pajang where we will visit the Toraja. Everything changed in Sulawesi, easier to adjust. This has happened to me several times in the past, especially with Americans who tell me they want to join me in off the beaten path travel. Any experience?
@WCMoss2 күн бұрын
Ha! That's hilarious, Liz. I've had the occasion to be with others who thought they might like to experience something off the beaten track and found one of my relationships hit the rocks after I dragged her through India. In hindsight India probably shouldn't have been the first place to introduce someone to the world.
@lizcarlyle2477Күн бұрын
@@WCMoss Sensory overload is India. Bali or Burma would have been easier to introduce someone 2 exotic travel with unique customs, food, architecture & safety. Staying in Sarawak and taking a trip upriver to visit longhouses is what most new travelers consider off-the-beaten travel. Once traveled with an American woman from NY to Lesser Sunda islands, who really panicked in not being able to catch a flight from Timor. When we able to leave, I took her to Rangoon & Mandalay. Travel begun to be fun 4 her, stepping outside the hotel, eating local food, going to temples, talking to locals in English, palm reading, gem markets, etc.

Many who are triggered in observing someone elses life and need to make anything but a affirming comment, in seeing someone live their life.....and are happy and content in doing so. I feel there is an underlying sense of resentment, because for whatever reasons they chose a different path and it brings up a feeling of loss in them. Not so much a judgement but an observation of human behaviour I still am understanding. Something very important for people to understand, Bali is mould central as is quite a few places in Asia but Bali is one of the worst and it makes many people unwell and yet few connect cause and affect for their symptoms. Be extremely careful and for many Northern European ancestry types it's very unsuitable for health and emotional balance, the heat and humidity is unsettling to our systems in so many ways.

I lost the bulk of my assets indirectly due to injury which was hard, however mostly my funds have gone towards travels. I do have some limitations and need to improve my health as want to explore more. @WCMoss Cheers Wayne,my wish is to spend more time in Bali to work on my health to give me the ability to go on more adventures My only obligation in Oz is my favourite person in the world who is my mother and not sure how to deal with the inevitable, however I know being in Bali longer in future will provide me with the nurturing environment I will need

We all want different things, there is no wrong or right as water like life finds its own level. We need different people with different goals in life or there would be no products, we would be still living in caves. There would be no roads no planes hell no motorbikes shorts or rain jackets, so it's great that we have people that want to do the things that make modern life what it is today. For me I've worked hard to get the things I want and it has enabled me to travel to amazing places and stay in fantastic hotels etc. But apart from all that I take comfort that pride that I've made the world a better place for my customers and in return in my aged years I have it covered. I do agree things can take time and effort and can restrict freedom, but I wouldn't change a thing as it has turned out. But what's right for me isn't right for others and vica versa. Wax On!! 🤔🤔

I think it's important to acknowledge people and their choices - many get to carve out a life they value and are content with which is great. I worry for those who don't realize they have a choice other than to traipse the predictable path and by doing so don't get to enjoy any freedom to be their true selves.

@@WCMoss I agree, I tell my friends retire as early as you can. You can only spend so much money, you have your later years in order so that is a stress reliever in itself, so go and enjoy yourself in whatever makes you happy what ever that is

Most people simply can't comprehend when others don't worship money, so they are almost predisposed to judge. Sleep well knowing you are not one of those "most" people. 👌

Thanks, rc. I think alternative lifestyles challenge many people making them question their own decisions. They see others out there living life to the full while they toil along, whittling the years away for reasons they're not sure they had any part in.

Whatever gets u thru life man. Who is anyone to judge ? Maybe later on you can visit out East in the NTT province. Timur, Flores etc...as an Aussie i kind if prefer it out there. 800 clicks north of Darwin.

I've been through, Flores and Timur some time ago and would really like to get back there. You could almost paddle from Darwin. :)

On Timur you see the Casurina trees ...always reminds me of Aus. And if I'm not mistaken it's in the same tectonic plate. Also the lizards of Australia kind of seem like close relatives of Komodo dragon.

Those ignoramuses are called "Sheep" or "Sheeple". Question, have you been to Thailand or Cambodia, i am tossing up with either but Bali may be a another choice, i know zero about Bali, so perhaps you can enlighten me with the Pro's and Con's. The Philippines did catch my attention but too many Con's came into the equation. I am an Aussie (none sheep)
@WCMoss3 күн бұрын
I like Bali because the people are of a soft kind nature generally. Bali is also only a three hour flight from where I'm from in Perth. Thailand probably has the best health care, Cambodia not. Thailand also has pretty good infrastructure so most things work. Cost of living is probably roughly the same, but that will depend on what you like to do. If you're a drinker, Cambodia would be a better fit. My advice is take a trip and spend a couple of months in each and get an idea of what fits best for you.

The freedom of having nothing has a non identity sense about it, though that nothing is electronic information transfers that authenticate the weary traveler's identity as having a net worth which solves their purpose problem, relative to purpose problems others have, such as future generation anxiety or philanthropic impulses.
