After 6 years of TD5 110 CSW ownership I got my Stage 2 Remap from Storm Tunning only a few months ago, watching your remap video helped me make my mind up between the Stage 1 and 2 so I owe you one! .. and it's the best thing I've ever done! My old intercooler had a rusted hole at the bottom, which meant I had an excuse to get the Alisport Intercooler, also went with their straight through bullet silencer. The noise is not as loud as a normal straight pipe but it sings when you floor it.

Upgrade your turbo! I got my bigger vtg turbo 2 weeks ago and i say it is amazing ! I also got a remap and bigger intercooler. But the turboupgrade will kick your ass twice as much as only a remap.

9:11 Most remaps will slightly improve fuel economy for normal usage. The power boost you get from the remap is from the ECU increasing the amount of fuel and air per explosion. So it's when you produce more than the stock 122hp that you are increasing the fuel consumption over the pre-remapped ECU.

The biggest potential issue for me is one I'm surprised hasn't been commented on yet: legality, and specifically whether an MOT can still be passed (e.g. on emissions). It's the one thing that puts me off doing this (and indeed EGR blank and straight through mid-pipe).

Interesting ... I have a 1999 TD5 and the thing is, it’s unmodified and to be honest it’s really no slouch, it really goes when you put your foot down, plenty of power for overtaking and the like. With the way the car handles around corners etc I’m really not sure what I’d do with the extra power. Maybe I’ve just got a good one but it shifts when I want it to!

Each to their own, and while I agree the Td5 is a great engine from stock, the difference with a remap is night and day. The noise is intoxicating, the acceleration hilarious, and it just feels more pleasant on motorways, junctions etc. Plus you get more power AND better fuel economy assuming you drive it sensibly. TirsbaekTV thanks - yes I watched it when you originally posted it, and I did have a question then but you probably missed it: have you done any very slow rock crawling type work in your remapped TD5? I had a friend who had his TD5 remapped and he said that with this type of driving the car “wanted to go too fast” and was not as controllable as it had been before the remap. Just wondered if you’ve tried it in those circumstances.

I'm not sure I can say that I've done any rock crawling, however I've done plenty of slow off-roading in 1st gear low range and I haven't had any issues.

I also have a 1999 TD5 which I had re chipped to make towing easier, no regrets. After selling the camper trailer I had a Disco High Range gear fitted in the trans box as changing 3 gears in the space of a intersection when taking off was becoming a pain. Top gear cruising is now quieter with less rev`s = less fuel.

The Land Rover discovery 300tdi auto was the test bed for td5 , fly by wire and ecu and I had it chip due 147000 mile with no faults and still going well

I would strongly recommend a monitoring device to at least monitor EGT... now that the the fuel-air mixture is richer, you're going to but burning more fuel when planting your foot, and knowing to lift before the temps sore, could save your head...especially long up hills...

Thanks for great videos.... Living with a remap... I got myself a defender 110 in south Africa. I have a company where I take Danish (mainly) guests into the bush in Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe. For the guests I use rentals but for myself I'll use the defender. I will mostly be running a fully loaded vehicle and we are driving thick sand and occasionally mud and river crossings. What do you think regarding remapping my vehicle having to use it under these conditions? I'm in Denmark at the moment by the way..

Thanks for the support! The metal guard is a legal requirement for vehicles registered in Denmark as "utility" vehicles. It's simply to protect the driver from objects that might be stored in the rear in the event of an accident/emergency stop.

Bit late to the Q&A party, but how does this affect the new UK MoT laws? if you decat, remap and straight through, do you risk failing emissions? ps. I'm not asking about EGR valve blanking legality ;)

As far as I'm aware a remapped Td5 should have no problem passing its MOT in the UK. Plenty of people have done it under the new laws.

@@TirsbaekTV Not necessarily true: www.gov.uk/government/publications/car-parts-checked-at-an-mot/car-parts-checked-at-an-mot If a catalytic converter was fitted as standard, the above website suggests that it would fail the MOT if it has been removed. I understand that testers are also requested to check or report any cat boxes that look like they've been slit, gutted and re-welded. Also, my reading of the regs suggests that an EGR blank would be classed potentially as an incomplete exhaust system since you are now venting emissions direct to the outside world which previously would have been subjected to a further cycle of combustion in the engine. The pros and cons of shoving a dollop of particulate matter and hot CO2 back into your lovely cooled clean air and fuel mix aside...
