I've set myself a little challenge, an experiment if you will...
I want to find out if it is possible to live with an electric car without being able to charge it at home.
So join me as I find out how easy it is to do this, is it even possible to live in a flat or terrace house and own an electric car?!
In this Part we find out how you actually go about charging away from home.
Thank you to Audi for lending me the new Audi E-tron to find out!

We did 850+ all-electric miles in a rental Zoe over last summer in the UK. No problems at all and it was significantly lower range than the e-Tron. Like moving to a smartphone from a flip phone, it takes a little research to learn how to use it properly but once you've made the change it's easy and you aren't going back!

I definitely felt by the end of the week that I could go EV, its just the inability for me to charge at home which puts me off

@@FirstDriveReviews That does cut out one of the main benefits of driving electric i.e. waking up to a full charge. Once you've figured out the right places to juice up, however, charging just slides into the routine while you do other things like work, eat, shop etc.

One of my main gripes is the variety of charging networks with different rfid tags or apps that you need to charge. It’s a real barrier to EV adoption. Only Tesla have it figured out as on their super chargers you just plug it in and the charging session will be billed to your card. But they can do that because they’ve spent a lot of money on rolling out their own network.

Very true, I think that is such a good idea by tesla to include those apps!

supermarkets and service stations want you to spend money shopping while your car charges. great business idea.

Not being funny to electric cars but I would rather use a few mins of my time to put petrol in the sit there for 3 hours like a lemon. I know electric cars are zero emission but petrols are clean if maintained well

Drive with Marc It depends - Tesla’s current super chargers do up to 130kWh charging speeds, and the V3 ones do up to 250kWh. Ionity chargers being rolled out do 350kWh. With those speeds, you can get from 10% to 80% in 15-20 mins. But a lot of others only offer 50kWh. So there is still a lot of room to improve.

@@kardy12 petrol takes like 5 mins and cheaper
@kardy12
@kardy12 4 жыл бұрын
matthew norton Is it quicker? Not really on a typical stop while on a longer drive - the 15-20 mins is about the same it takes for you to go to the service station toilet and afterwards grab a coffee before getting back into the car. And I don’t have to make an extra stop at the fuel pumps. Cheaper? Yeah, sure, whatever you say.

This is why a Tesla is so much superior with its supercharger network, none of this app, card rfid nonsense. pull up, plug in and charge.

Agreed, the Tesla system is great...however the nearest supercharger to be is at motorway services 50 miles away!

Yes if you drive a 50k tesla or a 70k audi EV with a 300 mile range, No if you drive a Nissan leaf with 100 miles range..?

Long and short of it, yes...but you also need the time to sit and wait for it to charge and spend the money on fast chargers whatever car you drive.
