When Dave was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2008, he knew nothing about the disease or its signs and symptoms. Hoping to raise awareness about bladder cancer, Dave and his wife Maureen share their story about learning to spot the disease’s symptoms, being diagnosed and living with the disease.

I am 49 years old and same happened to me.Blood in urine so went to my GP who then referred me to a urologist.Had to have a CT and a Scope down my penis into bladder.I was then diagnosed with G3 T1 bladder cancer.Went through various treatments TURBT 3 times and BCG etc .In the end I had a radical cystectomy.6 weeks on now and looking forward to the future.Was a rough road but getting there.

Thanks for your openness!!! I was diagnosed after a lot of bleeding. I am currently on BCG and was able to get into the the Crest research program.. "GOD HELP US ALL!"

I am about to start some form of chemo following pretty much what you have gone through....I live in France so, despite speaking the language, highly technical vocab such as cancer treatment terminology, can remain a tad vague......your story is inspiring.....rock on Dave......

I recall how shocked I was to see blood in my urine. I was diagnosed with T2. You really learn how to live one day at a time when this happens. I have had 2 operations over the past 5 plus years. I chose not to have chemo or radiation. I merely changed my diet and stop drinking. I don't advise anyone to do what I am doing as we have to do what we believe is best for ourselves. I have had excellent care through the VA. I still monitor my urine and am relieved every time there is no blood present. God speed to you all.

I am supposed to start chemotherapy in two weeks and I don’t know what to do. My mother just passed away from breast cancer on New Year’s Eve. I found out a month ago that I have bladder cancer stage two but felt like a strong diet and changing my habits would work has just been working good for you

Love this genuine response. I am not doing chemo, no stage has been done, but i did the scope. I have been have blood in my urine for awhile, I just got noticed, but they want 88k+, and prepay pay 2300K. So I can suffer and die at a cheaper rate. I just buried my wife, 09-22-2019 Stomach cancer, they tried chemo, rad, and the last chemo, made it worse, so they stopped. Went into hospice and laste two weeks. I counting on gods direction, or I will be talking to him soon. And on top of all this, I had a TBI, 2020. Just trying to comeback on this. Anyway, god bless and keep the faith.

@@bartholomewrichards1663 Still hanging in there and having cystoscope every 6 months thru the VA. I monitor my urine each and every time I go. I'm still dieting with Keto and actually feel good. I do stress daily that it will re-appear. I wish you all a smooth journey.

Apparently I’ve had a tumour “the size of a grapefruit” for over a year. Had no idea until 29th Dec 23 where a cystoscope revealed my cancer. Waiting for an appointment to remove my bladder (prostate and testicles, too I believe) and get a stoma. The consultant couldn’t believe I had no symptoms until several weeks before the cystoscopy. First sign of blood and I was on the phone.

I wonder how he is doing? I'm currently being treated for a low grade non invasive bladder cancer. About half way through BCG therapy. Hoping it does the job.

@@Bbg_1234For the first few months the scopes showed it all clear. Had another scope yesterday and a couple of small spots appeared. The dr burned them off and acted like no big deal. He said he has one patient that has had it done for years. I go back in 3 months for another scope. Perhaps at some point he will give me maintenance BCG treatments but can’t now as there is a shortage of the drug. He has a couple of patients that have more advanced problems than me and can’t give it. I asked about chemo and he said the version that targets the bladder is not as effective as the BCG drug. So who knows how this will go. Hopefully it’s manageable.
