I quit drinking right away and now I’m 3 months sober. Latest ultrasound shows a totally normal liver. Your videos motivated me to change my life once and for all.

Timeframe of drinking similar to mine. 10 years socially and another 12 hard core. I binged hard on weekends. Mon-Thurs hardly drank but come Friday I went 48 hours hard - basically until I passed out. Diagnosed last Sept. after I got Ascites. 7 liters drained. Hasn't returned. Quit Alcohol and cigarettes cold turkey. MELD was at 16 six months ago. Now down to 10. Liver function tests progressively getting better. Liver enzymes AST and ALT still a bit high which is a little concerning. Good luck to you and thank you for sharing your experience. It does help others.

@@liverdisease-qb6rk Your liver damage might not be due to alcohol. Some people have Wilson's disease, where their liver stores copper. Many people with Wilson's disease are alcohol drinkers, and if their liver tests show abnormal, the doctor will blame it on alcohol. Most doctors have never heard of Wilson's disease.

Please don't give yourself a hard time for succumbing to alcohol if you work in the hospitality business LD. I'm 63 but from watching your videos was as you were when you were young doing outdoor sports, which always ended with quite a few beers. At 40 I bought into a pub business (or a bar, as I'm a Brit) which became the place to go, live music the works. At the end of each night the bar staff would always have a few drinks on me before they went home. After they went I would cash up the tills and hit the scotch whilst doing it on my own. The seed of alcoholism was planted. I sold the business because of my drinking but ironically continued it for over 20 years more . I now think why, but I do know when, and I often think of the bar staff who were already drinking heavily at that time, over 20 years ago I hope they're all well. Simon
@liverdisease-qb6rk8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I can totally relate with you. I would do the same thing. I always had my drinks at the end of the night on the office while I counted cash. When the whole bar is open just for you.... it can become a problem. I know it did for me. Thank you so much for this! God bless😊

I have known several pub landlords die from Cirrhosis in their 50s. One was saved by his wife, he ended up drinking in the day and he started going to sleep drunk behind the bar, he left business entirely and moved away. What I notice about booze and seems to happen to alot is 3 things that I think give a high chance of over drinking. Proximity, Opportunity and Funds. Bar jobs, Chefs, Actors are badly affected since alcohol is always close( it is for most these days), but they also have the Opportunity due to the nature of their work and of course funds. I didnt drink much when younger because I didnt have the funds, god help me if I did back then.

Allo LD It sounds to me, like the gradual process into severe alcoholism was a light buzz to start with, like most of us, then as your life progressed into more real excessive stress to more heavy alcohol consumption to the point of pressing the ‘self destruct’ button without you even realising you were doing it! This is ‘flight or fight’, you were doing both at the same time!! I’ve said it before… if you don’t do it, someone needs to extend these real life horror stories to the young adult communities to the college interns etc. Alcohol is a demon that sits on your shoulder, waiting to consume you! Well done, you’re doing something great, not only to help your family, but so many others. Onwards and upwards!
