You're right, we don't know what the future holds and we can't promise ourselves or anyone else that we'll never drink again. It really is one day at a time, one hour, one minute, or even one second at a time when you first quit drinking. So it can be helpful in the beginning of your sobriety journey to break up time into smaller increments, instead of thinking "no more alcohol for the rest of my life". That strategy has helped me quite a bit, and still does to this day. I'm right around 2 years sober like you!

This is very similar to what happened to me and what I went through and been going through he's had some worse health issues then me, But I knew I was sick for awhile and I already knew from news I've gotten in past years ago that what I was going to hear wasn't going to be good at all I'd already been sick with pancratitis and liver issues years ago but I ended up quitting for about year and half and I thought I could handle one beer at a festival and next thing you know I was back up to a half gallon (handle) of vodka and most of time 6-8 24oz 8% hard lemonades a day. Every morning I'd wake up dry heaving and sometimes coffee ground looking stuff which was blood. And nomatter how sick I felt the shakes would be so bad I'd be shaking so bad as I would pour about first 6 shots into glass and worry I'd chip my teeth from hand shaking as I'd put glass to my mouth to get that first warm feeling that everything was going to be ok. Then I'd try my best trying not to throw it up as body rejected it.Then it was off to races but I knew my organs wasn't right. Constant pain physically and mentally. And when I finally started going to Dr the news was overwhelming. Hard to explain when you're told how serious health is and that if I didn't stop it wasn't years I was being told this time it was weeks to months. And first thing I thought was do I just say f%ck it and drown myself in alcohol to death or actually decide to love myself and live. People don't realize most alcoholics are self medicating other issues or traumas. Nobody wants to be a drunk or and addict. And for me I had to make some of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make nomatter what some may say. I know myself and sitting alone during day alone and in my head wasn't healthy I didn't feel like getting off couch everything took so much energy It took everything I had to get motivation to take a shower. I was scared miserable with what I'd become again and it's true doing same thing over and over expecting different results is insanity. So I never wanted to take the steps I took to find myself again and love myself again even though I knew it would be painful for me and others mentally. But sometimes the only thing you can do for yourself and one's you care about is step away from everything and change your whole surroundings to become mindful again and find yourself and love yourself again and decide you want to live for the ones you love. But if you're stuck in the same groundhog day nothing will ever change and you will be caught in that whole vicious cycle of depression defeat repeat that us alcoholics recovering or not know all to well. And if the people you have to temporarily step away from truly love you they will maybe understand or at least try to and if they can't. Then that's on them because you can't love others if you don't love yourself first which sounds selfish and might not make sense at time but its..true. would these people rather see you get better even though you might be apart for awhile and someday hopefully see you healthy and live a long life or watch you slowly drown mentally and physically? Life's not easy and I don't know all the answers but human nature is to survive and if those who say they love you and really do they will like I said at least try to understand. Alot of people don't know the true meaning of "empathy" empathy isn't feeling sorry for someone and trust me I don't want nobody feeling sorry for me..I've made my own mistakes and choices good and bad like every other human but the true meaning of "empathy" is putting yourself in someone else's shoes which, I wish some could try but everyone's feet and lives are different and it's not just a one size fits all thing..everyone's journey and reasons are different so all we can do is live in our moment and hope we are staying mindful and hopefully making the right decisions for ourselves and those who care about us. Love is understanding love is forgiveness even though it might not make sense at time but love is also forever..❤️(you know who you are now let me love myself again)❤️🙏

This is so well written!!! Thank you so much for sharing your story and your thoughts on this! I couldn't agree with you more! We have all made mistakes in life and when we finally realize how much of a mistake the drinking in the morning is, even after our bodies are trying so hard to reject it, we can finally get to a place where we know how much of a negative impact it's having on our physical and mental health. Listening to your video about being here and being alive. I think I've been there a lot of times I still think I'm between I don't care if I die a drunk or I want to live sober. I'm just 3 months in sober. Just laying here in my bed writing that the alcohol can determine my future. I know that's not true but that's what the demon says 😮 thank you G. I feel like I'm falling off the wagon but thank God everything is closed. Im scared 😢

Wow LD just wow!! You have no idea how badly I needed to hear this today. I’ve mentioned that for me I’ve been able to function and don’t drink every day but the word “excess” is hard to determine some times as it’s subjective if we disregard the cdc. Maybe it’s the alcohol trying to fool me to continue to drink. I’ve realized that if drinking pops in your head then you may have a problem. Stopping now can help prevent irreversible damage. Oh LD you’re a gem 💎 thank you for all the work you’re doing. You made it your mission and I’m so grateful you did. First, because you finally started loving yourself and wanting to be here for yourself and family. Second, for all the people you’re saving here. What a legacy!!! This was an amazing video and maybe one of the most important videos you've put out yet. The things you said, basically all the things you have said here will echo to all those that need to hear it and understand that an addict MUST STOP FOR THE ADDICT, and love yourself and love life enough to make that come to fruition. IT CAN BE DONE. You did it. I did it 7 and a 1/2 years ago, and many others have done it or are doing it. You hit on many of the triggers that I have. I'm an evening drinker never during the day. My alone, down time, I find myself remembering the past, wanting to relive much happier times, experience those happy feelings I once knew. Some of the happiest times of my life involved Alcohol. I put off stopping drinking because I fear a sober future. It seems I won't be able cope without a drink. I've came to the point as you said here that I can not get anything done. I'm either to intoxicated or to sick to do what needs doing. I must stop and I feel blessed to have found your videos. I congratulate you on your sobriety. Stopping drinking is war between yourself and your addiction. The mind wants to drink and your heart wants to stop. It is war. You have given me hope! Thank you.

Thanks for these videos. They are very helpful. Personally, I find fixing something or making something helps. It distracts the mind and gives a sense of accomplishment. It doesn't have to be a big thing. I.sometimes just buy cheap junk off ebay just to fix it lol. You are so right about the vitamins..I found the vitamins helped with sleep and RLS . That in turn makes you feel better. I found that eating properly came later. Gonna try the Calomine tea. Thanks.

Greetings from the U.K. I’ve found your videos the best that I’ve come across, as you have lived through this, and can speak from experience. I’ve had 3 bouts of acute pancreatitis, and am now being tested for Chronic via an EUS. I also have a fibrotic liver, so am most likely on the way to cirrhosis if I carry on. It’s really hard to find the motivation to stop drinking. Yours were family, but I’m estranged from mine; So suppose I have to do this for myself. This video was of particular interest to me. Best Wishes Adam

This makes a good point about being shocked into quitting drinking (when a person is shocked by two weeks in ICU or similar). I am *not* promoting aa, which is a poor fit for some people. However, I can imagine that somone who is "shocked into quitting drinking" and shocked into 'plug in jug' could still find value in aa, such as meeting people, kinship, overcoming shame, tools for living and so on. Also a channel to help other people newer than you. I have hung around AA age 35 to 65, and still find it interesting or even fascinating, and (1) the chance to keep a meeting running or to (1) help a new person is more likely than (3) me relapsing suddenly. BTW my favorite modern movie about alcoholism is SMASHED, which you can rent streaming for around $4.

Hi LD! Congrats 4 your sobriety! I am encouraged by you. Today 4-17, I had a repeat endoscopy. Good news my esophageal varies are not actively bleeding or friable. 🎉 stage 4 nafl cirrhosis not so scary today. However they gave me ketamine to control my BP and stress. Did not like it! Took me 10 hrs to become fully awake. That's my update for today. Thank you, LD community-you Rock! ❤❤😊😊

I'm drinking right now, i'm drinking to stay awake until i have an appointment for accupuncture for addiction tomorrow... i feel like an idiot. Sounds like you did some of the AA stuff yourself in the beginning, good for you. i didn't make the past 24 hours evidently.. i do some of the stuff you mention while drinking or sober, sad to say i do manage to learn even while drinking,,,. i gotta learn to cook and take care of my liver
@liverdisease-qb6rk7 ай бұрын
I understand. You can do it. It's not easy, I know. I had to be ready for it myself and it tool me a lot of hiccups to get to where I am now. I basically had to be told that if I drink again. That's it. That's what really woke me up. I'm praying for you my friend. Wishing you all the best! Thank you for being here! God blesz😊

@@liverdisease-qb6rk Honestly i'm still in the early stages of addiction relatively - and am doing what they call the "sinclair method" where you take naltrexone, and it supposedly decreases your desire to drink, though apparently i still go on benders with the naltrexone. Not sure if i'm in denial or fooling myself or what. But your channel is a positive place i feel, i really enjoy your videos. I know that there is always hope, as long as i'm alive.

Thanks, these are some good reminders, there’s no question that increasing your mental clarity and boosting your drive, comes with quitting. Yes, there are many ways to kick the habit, Steffon Barkload's Quit Drinking Forever is what worked for me, best shortcut I go’ogled that took days without withdrawal.

The things you did to stop drinking are exactly what AA prescribes…..one minute at a time. Make the bed. Healthy occupied routine. A higher power….. You admitted you were powerless……

@@thomashugus5686 and that’s perfectly ok. I suggest to you that a “higher power” can be a group….a friend whose advice you trust…. And if that doesn’t work for a person, they won’t be asked to leave. Lololol.
