So you can just raise (or not raise) different combinations of the heddle frames? Not like a Jacquard, where you can raise each and every heddle independently?

What about multiple shaft looms? I can do most if not all of the structures you mentioned on my 8-shaft table loom. I still don’t know how a dobby works which is what I was hoping to learn from the video.

Hi! not sure if this is still something you're looking for an answer for anymore - it's been a few months! but I stumbled across your comment and hope this helps: a dobby mechanism simply allows you to program your loom in advance so that your selected shafts lift across an entire pick by a simple depression of a treadle *what he's pushing down with his feet. It essentially presents a mechanical lifting option rather than having to individually lift each shaft by hand. It's a bit like having a lifting plan 'banked' so you can access it as and when you need, just by cycling *known as treadling, through your draft. When used effectively, it can vastly increase the speed in which you weave, as you no longer have to go through this process manually, and gives you endless options of lifting plans due to the fact that you only need to change your pegs, rather than (if your using a tie-up loom) having to completely retie your tie-up harness. I hope this helps :) if you're looking for more weave facts/answers I go into a lot more detail about this process on my Instagram: @daisykatehornsby

@@daisy-katehornsby3075 thank you, but this just sounds like tying up treadles. No idea what pegs you’re talking about or why they’re better than treadles. Seems you’re still using treadles from your description.

I'm in a similar spot and from what I've found yes the pegs in the dobby just automate the lifting of heddles by way of pushing on a small dedicated lamm somehow. Where there is a peg it pushes up on the stick, lifting the lamm, and uses a class 3 lever to move up that heddle. Where they got that before the dobby all anyone ever made was plain weave is beyond me because I made a twill glasses cloth with two sticks and a dream. 😂
