It's not on the outside, its a slot so you can unlock it from the outside if need be. A lot of interior doors of houses have em in the US, just stick a flathead screwdriver and twist and you can lock/unlock it from the outside. The actual lock is on the inside, like the bit that sticks out for you to grab
