Regarding moving the auto focus point, kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3-ngXqsZ9eWj6sm30s, I am not familiar with the Joystick option on other cameras, but does page 270 pt 4 address that option? After clicking the AF Point button, you can use the Main Dial and Quick control dial to move up down left right or the cross keys for finer and seemingly accelerated movements.

Bought a eos r for $1599, $1k less than 5d iv with same sensor, better processor, WiFi to connect to Cascable to run focus stack and exposure brackets. Has awesome AF especially with firmware 1.4. Touch Bar is fine if you turn off right side touch. Command/control ring is awesome- set to AV. Top buttons are shutter and iso. Color, dynamic range and noise are fantastic. Don’t care about crop 4K. Single SD slot fine when you consider all the other perks. Only downside was the FPS and tracking for fast wildlife. I realized most of my wildlife shots were more stationary and I would rather a full than a crop for low light dynamic range. Stop looking for the perfect camera. This camera is perfect for me.

I upgraded to the EOS R from my 80D when the R came out and I love it. I already have a bunch of EF glass I didn't want to replace and the adapter with the control ring is great. I don't have any RF glass yet, but it doesn't matter. I'm getting great shots with it. I don't ever do video so the 4K or not doesn't bug me at all. This is a pure stills camera for me and I'm fine with that. I'd like to see Canon drop the touch fn bar in the future. I don't hate it, but it doesn't add much. But this thing has a 5D IV sensor at a cheaper price and can also use RF glass.

I have a couple of R since late January for events and landscape. I ditched a 5ds and a 5d4. Since then it grew on me. Even the adapted L lens works better. The overall experience is really great. It's one of those cases when reality beats the spec sheets. The color science, menus, AF, the touch screen are really good. Pye carry on with your great work. Loved your objective review. It's really from someone that used it for real work.

Same shit happened to me when the Mark IV came out. Everyone was shitting on it(mostly Sony keyboard warriors which I’m sure over half of them are hobbyists). When they ran the first $300 off deal I got it and was blown away! Same with the R, most the videos and reviews took a dump on it and I just picked it up on Tuesday with the $400 off instant rebate. I’ve shot 4 Biz Journal shoots with it and it’s basically a mini Mark IV. I could have waited but I wanted to start training my mind on using a mirrorless setup. Either way, I love it and most Canon shooters have waited(as you should to get a proper ROI on the 1DX Mark II and my 5D Mark IV)for Canon to jump into the mirrorless game and their tardiness is quite impressive and worth the wait.

That was an excellent and objective review. I’ve been with Canon for over a decade now, having had all the 5D series (except the 5D4). Current kit is 5D3 & 5DSR. I skipped the 5D4 as I didn’t see it as enough of an upgrade for my requirements. In 2016 I bought a Fujifilm X100t, which I traded for an X100F last year, and using an EVF convinced me that I should go FF mirrorless. I’ve just ordered the R with 24-105mm, which I bought primarily for the lens as I miss the kit lens I sold with my 5D2 years ago. I am not 100% sure I’ll keep the R, but I can get used to the mirrorless shooting, and when I sell it to get the more pro body out this year or next, I will have a native lens and some experience with FF mirrorless. Anyhoo, thanks for the video, I’m really looking forward to getting the R this coming week.

Honestly I had owned 2 5Diii's the EOS R is a great upgrade from the 5Diii! When I had got the EOS R at the release date my EF lenses had perform much better than the 5Diii. My 5Diii was collecting dust so I had eventually selling them. I end up getting the EOS RP as a backup. I currently have the RF 28-70 and the AMAZING RF 85mm 1.2 (which put the EF version to shame) and I have no regrets going back to the DSLRs!

I have a 6D. I considered the same as you, but forked our the money on an international 5D MKIV. I just couldn’t justify buying the 6D MKII or 7D MKII because it’s really not that much of an upgrade, other than fps and dual cards in the 7D. That being said, if the EOS R had dual cards and a little better continuous autofocus, I’d dump the 5D MKIV in a heartbeat.

I'm curious about your comments on color science for still shooting. Presumably, you're shooting RAW, so the raw conversion is handled by Lightroom (as it is for Nikon and Sony). What you are seeing in terms of color, is determined by the Adobe raw profile, not any color science in the camera. Why would you tout color science as a benefit of this camera?

Is it worth purchasing the EOS R when I currently only the 5D Mark 2?
@jsasa56685 жыл бұрын
EOS R will give you eye-detection auto focus (great one with latest firmware), has dual pixel auto focus, flip screen (better screen), better sensor, more pixels (if that's your thang) and you will be able to use the RF lenses as well as the (imo genius product) drop-in filter adapter. It is lighter, has better processor, and if you do video, it can record externally (if you own a recording monitor like the Atomos) to 4k 30fps. If you can stick to your mk2 for now, save your money and wait for the next EOS Rs (coming next year according to rumors). Given the upgrades on the M6 mkII, I would expect/want that the new EOS R will NOT have 4k crop, 4k 60fps or 120fps in HD, improved fast burst, two camera slots, and hopefully they go back the wheel as opposed to the slider. I would buy that one for sure. But, it all depends on what you do...

My EOS R arrives tomorrow morning. My first full-frame digital. Disappointed in the lack of IBIS but decided not to wait. Considered a Sony but using my four EF L lenses with a Franken adapter seems hit and miss with some reviewers saying it's great and other saying it's a poor compromise. And those MC-11 and Metabones adapters are expensive! So, I bought the R knowing both its strengths and its deficiencies. Looking forward to it. I'll be watching in envy when the Canon pro mirrorless is introduced but it will be far out of my price range. Hoping the "R-Mk II" might have IBIS in another year or two.

I think touch and drag is one of the best things touch screen can offer. It can be much better than joystick... Now, I agree that it could work better. I was thinking about how good it would work out if the toch area could be set to thirds instead of half. And also, if they worked out a way to make the track by your finger speed. This could be amazing for absolute and relative focus picking modules! Another thing that could be done in the touch and drag, is to “aquire focus when you lift your finger”. That way you dont have to press any other button to aquire the selected focus. I also wish the R got a focus bracketing like the RP, and an intervalometer for stills (not only the timelapse movie option)...

Title is a bit misleading unless you think all your viewers are pros making money in photography. Yeah, I agree with you that you shouldn't buy EOS R to replaced your 5D4 or even 5D3 for still shooting as the primary camera. It won't improve your work much unless you want those crazy good RF lenses not to mention the 2nd card slot. But for a backup camera or for general usage canon shooter, it's a very good choice especially the price has dropped to below $1800 if you look for it. You forgot to mention an important feature of 4K video that 1080p will never give: if you shoot in 4K, and output a 1080p master, you wil be able to crop A LOT inside the frame and still have perfect image quality. This is very important in weddings, when you don't have full control over the scene, and you may want later to crop out some disturbing elements, or, simply, you don't have a second video shooter and you want to be able to crop in and make tight shots to use as B-Roll.

For me the biggest problem for professionals of this cámara is not in the video. ONLY 1SD slot!!! I don’t feel secure in a professional environment without backup card.

4K vs full hd on eos R - are GREAT difference. Even on 1080 monitors

Focus stacking is a great feature that’s available on the less expensive RP. Why doesn’t Canon include this essential feature on the R? It would be a firmware upgrade. Canon- are you reading this?
@TallTreesClub5 жыл бұрын
Users are reading it too. Hardly a fraction use stacking and I certainly don't need it on my EOS R

Pye must have been thinking of the 24-35 f/2. A Sigma 24-70 f/2 was just a rumor.

Way too expensive for what it's specially the lenses. It's now obvious that taking photos is not as lucrative as selling or promoting photography equipment. The only way I will upgrade to mirrorless is if I'm shooting editorial so you get what you see and never missing on exposure but if not there's no real advantage. Upgrading to RF lenses without knowing if the next 1dx mirrorless will used them is a huge risk in terms of resale value I am not willing to take. If you've the extra cash and love buying equipment go for it. My advice for all amateur photographers out-there pick a 6d mark II w a 35mm lens and master composition and lighting once you become great and famous Canon will give them to you for free is not the camera. It's like asking Hemingway what type of pencil did he used.

I've had the R for 6 months, upgraded from my 5D3 and as I professional stills photographer selling prints for almost 20 years now, image quality is what I care most about and the R sensor is better, what's more I love mirrorless experience and would still pick the R over the 5D4 given the difference with shooting experience. P.S. with the images you showed off taken on the R and all the pros you mentioned, you could of just as easily titled your video, buy the EOS R!

I currently am using a 5DMKII.. I reaaally want an upgrade and would like to be in the modern times with mirrorless for what it looks like canon will be bringing to the table by how awesome these new lenses are. I've seen great sales on the EOSR bringing the price under $2k and with a control ring adapter I can still use my non rf canon glass until I can afford that crazy new glass. Main Reasons I want to upgrade: Better autofocus system, higher resolution, more video features, better low light, return to SD cards, more overall functionality in the systems and options within the camera. I think the EOS R would be a great upgrade that I won't be sacrificing anything and will be getting a solid body to start myself in mirrorless.

Anybody that dogs this camera because of video specs can not be taken seriously in any aspect of life! Its a PHOTO camera 1st(as stated in the press release). If people read just a little before commenting, KZbin videos like this would never exist

LOL re the nose challenge! I'm left-eyed, but my nose seems to be of such a size that it's not been a challenge. My glasses also keep my face a bit further back, but the EVF cup design makes that not an issue. I guess the design is "nosist"! :-)

Left-eyed here too. I'm fine with changing focus points in landscape, but I haven't figured a way to do it in portrait mode without my nose making all of the decisions. Perfect, button nose, by the way... Anybody have any practical advice other than sticking with my 5DIII?

@@dbc97610 I use Bottom-Right-Relative, so even with my glasses off, there's no nose inadvertent nose intrusion. :-)

You can actually get a camera profile for Lightroom that will make lightroom "decode" the Sony A7iii and A7Riii files to look just like Canon (or very, very close). My company is a mixture of Canon and Sony users and it helps tremendously....so the main reason of color science can be resolved if you really wanna go Sony. And, the camera profile is free.

Great video..........Canon makes good cameras but a 4 year old D810 is better than anything canon makes as far as image quality and especially dynamic range .

Thanks for watching!
@williamblackwell95585 жыл бұрын
@@slrlounge I would definitely take the EOS-R above any micro 4/3's camera and even crop sensor cameras except for the D500 of course .
@MatthewSaville5 жыл бұрын
The D810 may offer amazing dynamic range, and I'd certainly prefer it for serious landscape work, but to continue the analogy started by this video, sometimes it's like buying a car with a top speed of 200 MPH when you don't even plan to ever crack 100 MPH, or a house with 10 rooms when you only plan on having 1-2 kids. In other words, if what you've got to work with is more than enough, then having more stops being as relevant as having a system that suits you best in other ways, such as the lens options or overall ergonomics etc...
