I plan my Wednesdays around Wooly Wednesday, my husband does not (I don't expect him too. :) ) So, when I miss the show on Wednesday I am grateful to be able to view it at another time on You Tube. And to be able to view it multiple times as needed. My take away this viewing is it is good to have a stash of prefelts available to play with. The prefelts themselves, made in the colors and blings of my own liking will inspire me to create. Looking forward to more inspiration next Wednesday. Thanks

I loved todays Wooly Wednesday! Happy International Fairy Day to ya'll!! My take aways for today are many, lol! The two biggest ones are putting a template under my plastic wrap to give me a reference size. Winging it doesn't always work well for me. The other was the different rolling tools that can be used for different sized projects. I now understand when to use the pool noodle and when to use my dowel. Thank you!! Can not wait till next Wooly Wednesday!!!

I just wet felted my very first item ever (the prefelt taught above). AND IT WORKED! Turns out I CAN be taught! I'm this excited because I'm disabled from POTS (like they've described with long Covid, but my kids and I have always had it) and a connective tissue disease (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome). I get exhausted easily, little hand strength and my joints will partially dislocate and pop back in at times, esp. fingers. But I kept watching your videos and finally decided to give it a go. I broke it down into small steps, resting in between. And it worked! Thank you so much for inspiring me with your wonderful tutorials and beautiful work. And of course, the fairies rock!

I see now that I have been using way too much water. Thanks for this great workshop and I will try incorporating silk cloth into the next project.

I was working on a table outside, but it got too hot. Now I'm using the top of the washing machine. I used duck tape to put a layer of bubble wrap on first. Then add the towel to soak up moisture, then more bubble wrap to work on and then whatever I need to do the rest. It works pretty well. I soak up any extra water constantly with re-used paper towels and a sponge. Hope that helps.

Question: Does a layer of silk or other fabric count as one of the prefelt two layers of fiber or should two layers already be laid down and the silk on top?
@LivingFelt4 жыл бұрын
The silk fabric is on top of the 2 fiber layers...in this prefelt. However, it is possible to make a single layer if fiber when nuno felting.

Q: how long should you prefelt your art fabric that you will add into another project that will be felted again? Thank you!
@lesleyharrison64864 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this tutorial. I was wondering about the silk fabric. I noticed you didn't cover all the edges with wool. Some of my silk pieces show raw edges. Maybe they are not filled enough?
@LivingFelt4 жыл бұрын
Since this piece will be cut, I did not worry about that...some silks just melt into the background, and some edges I cover. Covering them is subjective, but may feel like a better choice when just inlaying into your felt layout ( VS making a prefelt), and when the silk is a higher momme. Check out our wet felt cowl tutorial.

@LivingFelt4 жыл бұрын
If you can nuno felt it, you can incorporate it. Best results with open weave fabrics, and especially natural fabrics, but some man made fabrics will work also. We always encourage making test pieces to learn your materials before using them in a larger or more involved project.

Bonjour. 😊 P.s. I better for to read than to listen in English.

😩It’s no fun that I missed most of the live today! I’ve been really waiting for this tutorial after I suggested it last week. I haven’t missed a live for a while now but it happened on the day I needed it not to happen 😭😕 Anyway. *QUESTION* : I am yet to watch the replay but I see that you are following a “wet felting” process, so my question is can I make prefelt through needle felting (regular dry felting)?? Also, 2nd question, how would the prefelt differ if it was made from merino batts rather than merino tops?
@LivingFelt4 жыл бұрын
Hu Joode! Yes, we showed a needle felted prefect sample oiec last week. The short fiber batts felt Fast... So plan to POTENTIALLY roll less.

Herringbone is good for stretch and it is a layout patter option when you want to do a very thin single layer with wvwn vertical and horizontal shrinkage.

You mentioned rubbing on the side you want the threads to come through - is that always the case? So if you have a color you want to keep more on top, do you rub on the back so it goes to the back rather than the color from the back coming up to the front?
@LivingFelt4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this question, Daniela. In this case, I was rubbing on the SILK FABRIC to coax those fibers up through the material. I only do this if it seems tricky...otherwise I do my best to treat the entire piece with the same felting, fulling action except where more fulling (shrinkage) is desired - as if it is appearing to shrink unevenly.

Every tutorial you do Marie is filled with so much fun & facts. Have just made my first prefelt today after watching this. Heard the question/answer about using a sander--my question is about using the Palm Washboard tool. It seems a great place to use it, but in this tutorial you go from the first gentle hand felting to create the skin right into rolling. My Palm Washboard tool just came in the mail today so I was eager to try it out, but wanted to follow your guidelines at least for my first piece of prefelt. Is prefelt a good place to use the PW ? Thank you fairies, all of you again for an excellent experience in learning.
@LivingFelt4 жыл бұрын
Hi Candi, Thank you for your nice feedback. Yes you can use the palm wash board...some use it to start, some use it to felt 100%, some use it in fulling. In any case, when making prefelt, be gentle :)
@candibrowne27464 жыл бұрын
@@LivingFelt Thanks so much. I did use it on my 2nd prefelt and with the netting they send it is VERY EASY to have the wool come through the netting. It worked out okay, but took a little teasing to separate fibers from netting. I was gentle, but it happens fast. The palm WB almost moves itself, it's so smooth. After very little felting with the P-WB I could begin to roll !
@LivingFelt4 жыл бұрын
The mesh that comes with the palm washboards is different than ours...when I use the palm wash board with mesh...I am VERY gentle. You can also use the palm washboard through plastic and on top of bubble wrap...same as with your hands :)

@@LivingFelt Thank you. Thank you. A newbie, I am trying everything. My 2nd use of the palm washboard & their type of mesh worked out better. I still use LovingFelt netting and my hands so that I can feel the changes in the fibers.
