For the trimming I would like to try thinning scissors after the initial trim. It would help remove those too straight edges that arise from straight scissor trimming. This suggestion is coming from a long time dog groomer. Lol

Can you explain about lanolin content and how it effects the wool.

With needle felting...it is not really going to play a major role, - the fiber does not need to be 100% free of lanolin. Wool with and without a noticeable amount of lanolin will felt :)

And contouring could be done by shading areas with a darker hair or trimming those areas with with scissors and doing some contouring .
