I lived in tucson ten years almost with no AC in my pickup. Its ok, you get used to it, windows down. But once its over 100 degrees, then it starts getting a little uncomfy. It also gets really cold in higher elevations, really cold! Like ShowLow = cold winter. Just a quick tip, every year in the summer when the heat first hits, there are ALWAYS multiple people who die of dehydration. They were out hiking, running, walking and did not have enough water. Happens EVERY year. Dont be that person if youre new! The desert literally sucks the water right out of your skin because the air is very very dry, so please be careful to drink and carry much more water than usual if you dont have any experience in Tucson or the desert area.

The pet information is very important. Coyotes have snatched up the little dogs during their walks with moms. If you live in the desert watch over your pets. Owls, hawks, coyotes, bobcats, rattlers. If getting a family pet the bigger the better. Pocket pups and 😻 don't do well. Never take them with you in the summer and leave them in the vehicle. Someone will bust out the window to save your bestie. Tucson to me is a wonderful and friendly place. People in summer go out in am& pm. Get a light-colored car. Use a sun shield. Park under a tree. Get misters in yard

People who moved here before we did kind of scared me about the "horrible" Arizona summers. I came from the suburbs of Chicago with truly horrible winters and terribly humid summers. I'm not hating summer in Arizona at all. I also get cold in the winter here even with higher daytime temps - I'm always cold and have to bring a jacket with me to stores & restaurants, even in the summer. When I lived in IL I always said that I was born in the wrong state.

I have to totally agree with dehydration in winter in Arizona. It’s not so hot but the dryness just drys out your whole body and you don’t realize it. I’m not a big drinker but in winter you have to force yourself to drink lots of water. In summer it’s so hot you want to drink constantly. So keep an eye on your water intake especially in Winter. I was getting weak and lightheaded this winter and couldn’t figure it out.

It’s really hot 4 months a year but the rest not so bad. Also the sun, the sun is out pretty much every day, hardly and cloudy days and rain is almost non-existent only during monsoon season and that is sporadic. Arizona is a desert in the midst of a severe drought. Here in Tucson, we get most of our water (CAP) from the Colorado River. We share that with 7 other thirsty states and Mexico - some of which are also experiencing a drought. Last night (June 15th), I was waiting for it to cool off to 90 degrees before watering my plants. It never did. It was 96 degrees when I finally went to bed. It's supposed to be 117 tonight at 8 p.m. We haven't had our annual monsoon rains for three years! So if you're moving here and planning to put in a lawn, please, don't. Do us all a favor and plant heat tolerant native trees instead. I haven't had to water my mesquite and palo verde at all.

As far as sunscreen, I really want to recommend against it since sunscreen is actually extremely toxic. You’ll notice that in middle eastern countries, shielding with lightweight fabrics is the way to go, in addition to avoiding exposure during the most extreme parts of the day. I think they’ve the right solutions with that mindset. I encourage smart exposure, hats and clothing rather than chemicals that absorb into the bloodstream. Thanks for the video!

AZ might not rank very high on the list for public schools but we have school choice and a very healthy charter school system that has been around since 1994, which means you can enroll your child in any school and the funding follows your child. The only barrier is transportation (we did carpooling but some offer busses) and waiting lists at the most popular schools. (The 3R schools are most popular) My teens went to a small charter high school (120 students) that was next to a community college, the students took college classes that were a credit for their high school diploma and counted toward their college degree. The classes were funded by the school and some students graduated with an Associate Degree along with their HS diploma! All AZ community colleges are all recognized by the AZ state universities so if they decide to go on to complete a 4 year degree all credits will transfer.

Welcome to Arizona. It's terribly expensive and always has been ,however people are moving in from BLU.E states to escape the awfulness and housing prices are UP there. Rents at Prescott are at $2,000 a month and expect to experience crime . Other than that, enjoy your stay . Oh, I forgot one thing . There is a WATER shortage.

Gilbert is good for young families. Gilbert is surrounded by most of the cities which allows for easy access to other cities. Hurry the price homes 🏡 is going up.
@richardcorniel59123 жыл бұрын
Buckeye or Goodyear are better. Gilbert is way east and you'll feel far away from phoenix plus it's expensive. Scorpions are fun to kill at first but then it gets boring and you'll forget about them. Most of what people have to say about living in Phoenix Area is exaggerated.

I live in WA and love going to the mountains and national forests roads to go shooting and camping can that be found in AZ? I mean i sure it can but any one else like to do those activities and find it easy to do in AZ as well?
@mrswjr40613 жыл бұрын
Yes. Camping and shooting are both done here. Hunting is a big thing, too. You need to watch for fire restrictions, though, the forest service will post when camp fires and shooting is not allowed because the risk of fire is too high. If you want to explore southern AZ, you might be surprised to see signs that tell you that you are near a drug/human smuggling route and to be extra cautious. We have a favorite area that we go to every year that is in that corridor and we have never had an issue.
@kingshanethe1st3 жыл бұрын
@@mrswjr4061 yeah they have the fire warnings up here to in WA so i get that. I never have problems up here shooting and camping as long as like you mentioned watch for the fire signs and shoot far away from others in the area. Figured it would be the same thing with the national forests lands down there too but was not sure. Thanks

If you live in Western Washington you will love the weather. People are much more friendly than Washington. Housing cheaper. Politics is more conservative without the craziness you are used to in Washington.

@mikewhite98183 жыл бұрын
@@kingshanethe1st One of my favorite areas is Sierra Vista. But I also like Prescott. Presently I am in Kingman but in a development out of town called Valle Vista. All three areas I mentioned will see a reduction of heat during summer while being warm in the winter. Lots of really different sites to visit and things to do compared to Washington. As an example I am one hour from Vegas, one hour to the Grand Canyon, 1.5 hours to the oldest rodeo in America. The Hulapi Mountains is only 30 minutes and visible from my back yard. During the day I have many birds, squirrels, Rabbits, and lizards eating at my food and water station. Lots of art, yard sales, Phoenix is 2 hrs, Flagstaff is 2 hours. Flagstaff is pretty but too many mask wearing liberals, snow in winter very very deep, housing way expensive.

I'm moving from UK to Phoenix in a couple weeks. Can't lie, I am scared to death. The way Americans do stuff, is so alien to how we do it in the UK. Amount of times me and my American wife have butted heads is silly because, what I figure is common sense and normal doesn't happen in US and it scares me how I'll handle it lol.
@Paige-Turnner3 жыл бұрын
What do you consider common sense and normal? Care to share an example?
@markjenkins4643 жыл бұрын
@@Paige-Turnner 1. People carrying guns isn't normal in any western country but America. So if I get into an arguement with someone over anything (it happens) I've got t worry they're carrying and may shoot me. 2. In Arizona, you don't have to have a yearly 'health check' on your car, so in UK all cars can't be driven on the road unless they passed an MOT test. Like that's a law here. 3. Healthcare another think that scares me. The whole do I have the right insurance etc, in UK we pay 4% tax per year for everyone to get healthcare no matter the issue. 4. In UK we have employment rights, so I get 4 weeks paid annual leave no matter the job I have. I won't be 'guilt tripped' into not taking vacation. I've seen many stories about that on social media. 5. Your food standards, so American meat can't be sold in EU/UK because of how low the quality it. For example, American farms bleach their chicken....like wtf, why does a chicken need to be bleached, that's just not normal. There is alot more I can add to the list. But I'm in the middle of something haha.
@Paige-Turnner3 жыл бұрын
@@markjenkins464 okay, I can tackle #1, people get in arguments all the time and most don't end in a shootout lol I've never had a gun pulled on me during a confrontation and I don't carry so if I'm not scared, neither should you :) Also, most people aren't confrontational, most just want to be left alone, so just don't be a jerk and act all superior because England does this or England does that. Remember, we won a war against England because we didn't like the way you ruled over us. ;) Healthcare is fine, we believe in personal responsibility and individual autonomy rather than the state telling us what to do with our bodies. If I choose to live a certain way, I have to live with those consequences. I don't expect my neighbors to lift a finger for me if I end up sick because of my choices. However, America is one of the most charitable nations in the world, I'd rather my neighbor choose to be charitable rather than forced to be. Food is fine too. We have organic meat if it's such a concern. Standards are arbitrary, if you cook it well enough you'll be fine.
@Paige-Turnner3 жыл бұрын
@@markjenkins464 As far as work goes, no one can guilt trip you out of a vacation. Just do it. In America we used to have this thing called a Protestant work ethic which the left has discouraged to oblivion so no one is going to get upset if you take some time off.

Moved here in October 2019. We were so excited to move here but we have been so disappointed. When you get anywhere near Phoenix there is trash everywhere, homeless everywhere and people here just throw their animals away like they were trash. I came here from Massachusetts and I had maybe seen 5 dead dogs in the road over the course of my entire life, and I have literally seen 10-15 in the last 6 months. You see abandoned pets daily here. We couldn't stand the rain all the time back east but it is ridiculous that it has only rained once in Surprise since April. The cost of living here has gone through the roof but the pay has stayed stagnant. The schools are terrible here, my daughter is 2 years ahead of everyone in her class. People here are "fake nice", at least back in Massachusetts everyone is an a**hole but they are upfront about it. I could go on and on but I think you all get my point. Once my wife is done with college here we will be moving out of state as quickly as possible.

@@thecuz2798 You should have done more research before moving to a place so far from your home. I’m surprised that as a truck driver, who has traveled thru many states, you weren’t aware, that most- not all - of AZ is a desert. When you live in a desert climate, it is normal - not ridiculous- to experience 8, 9 months or more without rain. Perhaps you can try moving to another city in AZ, especially in northern AZ, where you can experience all 4 seasons or milder climate, than Surprise. By the way, I have never lived in AZ- I am a southern CA resident, and have been for most of my life - but since I have a daughter who lives in AZ, I drive there several times a year to visit her, and have grown to love and appreciate the beauty of AZ.
@thecuz27984 жыл бұрын
@@Lourdes-A. I actually did my research by living here back in 08-09. Ask anyone who has lived here and they will tell you this place has changed over the last 10 years. The rain was only one of many complaints. Also I never said that Arizona wasn't beautiful but I am starting to realize I am more Country mouse than City mouse. Seeing the homeless,the abandoned animals and the trash littering every street drains on you. If I could just work in the suburbs and never have to drive around the city that would be great but that is not where the money is.
