The A80 Supra is a bit of a hard car to judge relative to when it came out as it was over engineered to compete with European sports cars which made it expensive but the Toyota badge didn’t have prestige and appeal of any of the competitors so it was overlooked when new but then found a cult following in the aftermarket. It probably feels like a modern car because in many ways it will be comparable to modern cars due to the high quality manufacturing techniques Toyota used to build it. True JDM icon.

Hundred percent, I had one in my early twenties, totally stock, and didn't pay a lot for it. In fact I part exed it for phase one rs turbo. Imagine I still had both those cars now FFS lol

Drove a 600bhp on a track about 2 years ago, felt like a tank to start with, having to build up the pressure in the turbo, but when that turbo kicked in it was like a plane taking off. Anyone that hasn’t driven one needs to experience one. lol

Lighter than most of your BMW's and lively even at this level. Linear power delivery with the turbo's and mid range torque of the inline 6 and looks like your having a hoot. Recaro's are an essential upgrade.

First time I drove one I gotta admit it was so much better than I expected it to be. I expected a very much dated experience and it’s not at all it’s over engineered to the point it feels more like something from 2007 ish or round about. Proper nice cars.

I had a none turbo Supra and I began work on it to restore it and turbo it. I had a lot of stuff I needed to build it back up but unfortunately I had to sell it in the end. With half of the money I would like spent on it I bought an m140i which I'm really happy with, 480bhp and 720nm, mapped by Tom Wrigley along with other bits he did. As much as I like it I miss my Supra 😢

In 1998 I had the older version. A 1989 F reg 3.0 turbo. Even that handled like it was on rails and was an epic epic car. Never owned the newer generation or lucky enough to drive one but can imagine they are truly incredible 🙂

i had the mk3 turbo and a mk4 tt and also have mk4 tt shell with roll cage. prices crazy now i got my mk4 in 2001 for 18k 96tt jap import. 420 on strong hybrids looks a decent set up

Owned one a number of years back, the turbos are indeed proper sequential! you can do a mod called parallel turbo mod where you can make them non sequential and have them both come on at same time (reversible), i like the feel of parallels better then sequential its more like a single turbo, and still nearly no lag full spool by 2500 maybe bit more with hybrid. Though sequential was done mostly for boost control/traction control i suspect, i put a dump pipe on my stock one and started over boosting straight away/fuel cut. The ct26 (front turbo) is the same turbo that comes on 1jzgte vvti and that was just single turbo, no lag and could push 350-400 on stock turbo. 2nd turbo just mostly a gimmick/boost control for the bigger engine

i tried the ttc mod years ago comes in hard too. i did the blitz fmic and blitz nur spec cat back and decatted and rltc and water injection also hks 264 cans and gears and uprated torque convertor. great mods and used to hit 1.1 bar of boost. will never get rid of mine had since 2001.

Yeah people don't realise back when these were released they shat on the Ferrari 348s. A80 chassis skid pad rating wasn't beaten until the Carrera GT came around. This is why the new A90 supra is kind of a let down I guess it isn't as ground breaking as the A80. The NSX, Supra, r33 GTR, FD, MR2 were the cars of our playstation generation. In the end the A80 supra was killed but what created it the Japanese economic bubble. Doubt we will ever see another car generation like this again especially out of Japan tbh
