I love this video. I was trying to figure this out myself, being that my kiddos are on the spectrum and need so much repetition. I felt that we have to just keep working or they may forget everything, but I also wanted to spend December in more of a joyful rest and focus on teaching them what really matters ( the gospel and to focus on the true meaning of the season's celebration). I always worry that we have to keep working and practicing because of the learning difference. But I do believe that at the end of the day they can know all the math and all the reading etc... but if they don't understand the gospel and what Jesus really means for us and what he's done, then they don't know anything. It's easy to fall into feeling like teaching school subjects is the priority because of society and portfolios and all that. I want to lightly review through December so they don't forget but I want our focus to be on jesus and loving God above all else and loving eachother as ourselves. Cause what's more important that learning and practicing that?

All regular curriculum is getting put on pause, except for math, and we are focusing on all things Christmas. We are doing Nativities around the World handwriting, Christmas around the World notebooking pages, Christmas themed logic puzzles, Christmas literature and Hillsdale College's new Christmas Carol study. I've been collecting Christmas freebies for years now and I'm finally getting around to actually using them.

We are in South Africa 🇿🇦 so our summer break is over December so lots of summertime activities and prepping for the new school year happening. I have fun summer/Christmas activities we do that keep the brain active and a bit of a schedule going, we have a neuro divergent child that attends a special needs school that always wants to do school and the my homeschoolers are 8(9 on the 10th) who has learning difficulties and a almost 3yo to keep busy. Lots of arts and crafts, games, fun videos for school. Thank you so much for your amazing videos. I have learned so much and feel better equipped to help my kids.

We do homeschool during December because my kids don’t do well transitioning! One has ADHD and learning delays and the other has Autism. We took a week off during Thanksgiving and will during Christmas/ Hanukah /New Year’s… but we can’t do a month off because the difficulty with transitions is too challenging with my baby on the spectrum. We also don’t take a full summer break because my baby with adhd & learning delays completely dumps if he’s not constantly reviewing…. But you can do fun things like you are naming! You really are always learning!

I love this! We took 1 week off for Thanksgiving and now are back for 2 weeks of school. We are taking 3 weeks off of school for Christmas and New Year’s. Part of me wants to take longer, but we also do great with routine so this seems ideal.

My preference is full days and half days school year around. Florida lifestyle is everyday vacation :). We do better with routine.
