I am Ugandan and my home is fort portal i noticed you keep saying that there is no fort in the area but the city was named after Sir Gerald Portal, the British Consul General for British East Africa and British Special Commissioner to Uganda, and the fort that was constructed in the late 1893 by captain Lugard as a way to protect the Tooro Kingdom from King Kabalega of Bunyoro. and a young tour operator and a travel enthusiast i am happy to welcome you to Uganda

Did you get your geography how Lake victoria was formed, now assume you have a bucket(L.victoria) which is being filled up by twenty taps(rivers feeding the lake) from Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya, but has only one tap (R.Nile) to release that water. Now all the rivers feeding the lake have seasonal rains which same are different some are same, when these water comes into R.Nile it is release with a tremendous force, so those banks of R.Nile are like Budalangi or Kano plains in Kenya, that during rainy seasons it is flood all over, thus what looks to you as bare land is basicaly under water at times, and unlike in Kenya ugandas have learned their lesson, those banks are death traps

I don't think people in Uganda need to live near the river to survive like in Egypt. Coz the climate supports life far away from the river, besides, most if not all, the communities along the Nile Valley in Uganda are cultivators, they are not fishing communities. They also don't irrigate from the river, so no need to get close by. The river breaks banks sometimes, making you vulnerable to flood. Crocks and hippos are not on every bank of the river. So safety isn't the issue why they don't settle there. Would may be accept that mosquitoes may be a concern.

My personal view any how, why people in UG dont live close to rivers especially River Nile its cos of dangerous animals such as crocodiles & hippos. Due to their sun sensitive skins, hippos prefer grassing at night, moving distances away river escarpments to look for grasses, not rarely do they encounter humans & de meets usually end badly for de humans, a reason enough to keep off hippos ways especially!

Thanks for the video tour. It gives me back memories, I toured those parts 7 years ago. However, when it comes to Uganda nationals with their traditional beliefs, we Ugandans believe in ONE GOD. In Western Uganda including Toro he's called Ruhanga. There is NO such thing as Ruhanga of lakes ( Ruhanga we Nyanja) or Ruhanda of sun ( Ruhanga we njuba). The same applies to all nationals in Uganda. The Baganda call him Katonda which means the Creator of all creations. There is no such titles or names as Katonda we nyanja ( god of the lakes and rivers) Katonda w'omusana ( god of sun) No at all. Those small gods are found in Europe and Asia ( may be). In your video what you call gods is not gods. They are deities and angels. Roman Catholics also have deities who were once humans, they pray to e.g Maria, Yuda Taddeo, etc. Our tradional beliefs are almost the same, but differ in how we adore, worship and and seek protection using different God given languages and the level of spirits we consult for protection e.g God ( Katonda, Ruhanga, Rubanga etc) or angels ( Arabs call them Malaika), deities - Mayembe, balongo, nakahima, Lubowa etc that existed before and or after humans commonly know as Misange ( those which existed before 1st human) and these include Ndawula in Luganda, Ndahura in Rutooro/ Runyoro/ Rukiga etc; Musoke Ssewamala,Nabamba- 7 superior ( archangels) represented by a rainbow and serve God the creator. God/ Creator assigned them to guard and oversea places like Sun & Moon, Lakes and rivers, Land and mountan hills, kings protectors etc. Other lower level sprits or angels are those that protect communities, people, properties, and fight , go, to wars, e.g In Buganda they are called mayembe or mayambi meaning " helpers" So my dear, there are no gods of semlik or Rwenzori. God is one and has no equal. He assigns duties and kingdoms from different natures. The lower levels obey the upper levels. The highest level is God. The bazungu, europeans have several gods and that's their beliefs.
