I just listened to a bunch of renditions of this in a row, then this popped up and I had to see who it was. It had so much more emotion than the other versions I've listened to. So good.

Absolutely compelling performance with great sensitivity, balance and eloquence. Wow!
Before I heard this piece played by Liying Zhu, I had listened to that of Raimundo Luco: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYG6layAp5uVj8U At first I found it difficult to compare the two as they contain very different interpretations and I preferred Luco's. But after listening to both a few times, I changed my mind. His interpretation is more emphatic, carrying not only expectation, but also a kind of demand, not motivated by fearful, longing desire but accompanied by a more aggressive undertone; come here my love, or else... it almost implies a threat, and is at least full of a self-conscious certainty. Liying's interpretation, on the other hand, is thoroughly lovely, quite in keeping with the mood of a serenade and not of that of a 50 shades of grey context; it is like a dream full of joyful anticipation. A dream that flees swiftly and sweetly through the night on its way to the beloved, exactly as Schubert had wanted to put it: “Leise fliehen meine Lieder durch die Nacht zu dir …, i.e., “My songs softly plead to you through the night …” That is, ‘softly and pleading,’ not loudly and demanding! Perhaps I’m exaggerating here, but if so, just in the interest of making the difference as clear as possible. I love, simply love BOTH performances, however, there is a very clear difference! And my preference now, is for that of Liying, because in my opinion it is more in synch with the character of a real serenade as I tend to feel it.
