I really enjoyed this video! I liked you put some of the facts about gear on the screen (important details, yes, but I'm glad you emphasized what was important that made you use it!). I'd say that this was my top three favorite post-hike gear videos I've seen!

Liz I love your videos. I was a hiker and climber in the 70s mostly out west and the Andes and my wife has been an almost daily yoga practitioner for 25 years. Your personality is so endearing and of course you’re very lovely. My wife immediately said “wow those are great handstands she’s doing”...she was impressed.....she is very fit like you but handstands have always been a challenge for her. Congratulations to you and Luke. God bless you both Man gear has improved since my day. Charlie and Annette Franklin TN

I bought the Hyperlite pod at Trail Days and it ended up being my favorite purchase ever! Prior to that I was using assorted stuff sacks for my clothes and I could never pack my pack the same way bc I wore different layers at different times on the trail. But with the Pod, no matter how full or empty it is, it always fit down in my pack the same and I just put stuff on top of it. That thing is amazing!

For a bear bag line throwing device, get a steel ball bearing and wrap rope around it making a monkey fist. Works very well and you can control what weight you want by choosing what ball bearing size you want to use.

Journeymen's work - very nice video. Notice how as she's explaining the gear, she holds it up and names it (make, manufacturer, etc.) and she gets the details correct every time? *She lists it on the screen for us, but while she's filming she's not reading it, it's all in her head(!) An accurate and organized mind. Her equipment always went back into her pack the same way every time. Suggest 2 possible "adjustments;" carry bear spray and NO handstand on McAfee Knob!! Thank you for the work.
@LizKidder
@LizKidder 2 жыл бұрын
I love this comment😂 I’m extremely type A, and not too many people notice/appreciate that, so thanks!☺️ I used to carry bear spray, but thruhikers typically don’t because of the weight to extremely-unlikely-to-need-it ratio. I would consider it depending on the hike/location. I know my handstand on McAfee Knob may be controversial, but I promise you that I was extremelyyyy experienced and safe about it. I used to joke that I had better balance on my hands than feet (I trip a lot). But on the other hand, I’m sure there are people out there dumb enough to see my picture and want to try it themselves… so I get it.
@kevinmulloy693
@kevinmulloy693 2 жыл бұрын
@@LizKidder It takes an athlete to pull off a handstand AND walk on their hands - I'm actually amazed that people jump out of perfectly good airplanes and climb mountains, shoot class 5 rapids, etc. I'm just not that brave! I always recommend bear spray because if you have it, you don't worry about the "noise outside your tent" at night and if you spray something (or someone) the results are temporary.

Love the gear review. I only watch ones that are done after the hike. I'll go completely nerd here, but if you haven't thrown out your leggings, if you iron them through a paper bag over the wax, all the wax will go into the paper bag. I know....pitiful...:)

I never hiked AT, but about the deodorant thing: what about carrying those tiny perfume sample bottles? They’re like 5ml each and weigh nothing. It’s not enough for heavy usage, but it’s probably sufficient for 3-4 uses, once a day while you’re in a town. Trouble is they can’t be bought, I get the when I buy full sized perfume bottles.

I didn't read all the comments... However don't throw your pants out. They are savable. All you need is an iron, papertowels and a roll of wax paper. Take your pants and lay them on an ironing board...place a sheet of wax paper between the front and back side of your pants legs on the inside of the legs. Then on top of your pant legs where the candle wax is lay a sheet of paper towel then another sheet of wax paper on top of the paper towel. Now run your iron over the wax paper. You will see the candle wax starting to be absorbed into the paper towel. Keep placing new papertowels down until all wax is removed you may have to turn them inside out and repeat the process but it will all come out. I had to do this technique on some fine antique linens. I was doubtful but I tried anyway cause I had nothing to loose. Praise the Lord I did cause it works great. When all removed you can wash but hang to dry just to double check everything is gone before placing it in the dryer. Loved how informative you were on the information and Congratulations on your finish and marriage.❤️

So far, I have noticed no one has put a price tag either on what they actually spent on gear, or what the overall cost of the entire trek amounted to. Do you have an estimate? Sorry this is so late, but I just watched 4 of your videos and thought I'd take a chance you are still answering these comments. Great job so far on all your videos. I also watched some of Evan's videos, and asked him the same question (no answer so far), but I hope you get and can approximate an answer for me. Thanks! Cheers!
