It's been so long since I've been to the falls. You brought back a lot of fond memories! I've been trying to get my grandson to take a road trip there but now that he's out of High School he doesn't seem to have the time. It's much more fun hanging out with buds doing nothing (not). BTW I read that you guys were headed out west to do the CT. Good luck and if you can, keep us up to date on the trip. Thanks for sharing!

The Cave of he Winds is very cool and worth it . . . in the summertime! They have to rebuild he deck every year, and it looks like they were rebuilding it when hyou came. But you can walk up and have the water fall hit you. It was a wild sensation. You also are experiencing what it might be like in a hurricane with the water and wind whipping around.

Excited to see some KZbin folk getting out to the ADK! A good backpacking route is the loop trail from the Gardens, you hit ~6 peaks if I remember right and get some really good views. Late spring is the best time for that trail imo

Welcome to the Adirondacks! (I don't live there, but I'm a 46er.) I was wondering when you showed where you parked whether that was the Cascade/Porter trailhead. Technically, snowshoes are required in the Dacks when the snow is at least 8 inches deep, but enforcement is spotty, and you clearly didn't really need them in those conditions. If you go back, I recommend the Great Range via Pyramid Mountain. Pyramid doesn't have enough prominence to be one of the 46, but IMHO it has the best views in the Adirondacks.

I think the falls are prettier from the Canadian side, but honestly I can't remember. I know the Canadian side is more urban and developed, so maybe. 🤔

So, yr not imagining the middle of nowhere thing--you really are! I grew up in Saranac Lake and drove through the Cascades (with the river/lake thing next to it, Rte 73) a LOT. Never hiked in there tho. But that whole area is pretty much podunk central! Also, I thought yr man was tryin to kiss me there for a sec! 😚 So glad you enjoyed the ADK!

NY definitely has some gorgeous places. I’m in NJ. A friend & I drove up to the Bear Mountain area. I seriously wanted to hug all the beautiful things I was looking at. Glad you had an amazing trip Liz! Hugs & love to you, Luke, & Miss Piggy ❤️❤️❤️

When you stand next to the falls, especially on the Canadian side because of how close your are, you become so mesmerized by the flow of so much want and its power. If you head downstream on the American side there is a state park, Devil's Hole State Park I think. It has steps that take you to the floor of the gorge. I've been down there and hiked along the river back toward the falls. At the whirlpool section it is amazing to stand next to the river and see the swells. They are huge. Have a fantastic Independence Day Holiday!!
